Face Lock for Apps

Was reading on the XDA site and came across this:

FaceLock Face Recognition App Locking for Gingerbread

I've come across situations on this forum where Galaxy owners have let other people or their kids play with their phone, when the device is handed back something doesn't work, settings are changed or the phone is locked.

The above link is to an app which allows you to lock: Settings, Play Store, Task Manager, and one application.

Hope this helps some of you lot and thanks to XDA.

Requires a front facing camera and Android 2.3 or above.

So the free version locks one app and the paid pro version locks unlimited apps.

Going to give this a go, looks interesting.

Wasn't a fan of the face lock recognition when it first came out on the 2.3.6 (Dec 11) Value pack, since then though Samsung have added blink detection. Whether the app incorporates the blink detection is another question.

On another note, the face lock recognition still has a flaw....Twins. Clearly not for Twins like Arnold and Danny but identical twins.

Ooh. I hadn't thought of that. What if I have an evil twin somewhere?

Just bought the pro version. I don't like having to unlock my phone every time I use it, but with this app I can just protect the critical apps on my phone, so if I lose it or it's stolen the new owner would have trouble accessing my contacts and data.

The face detection works very well, if it doesn't recognise you where you are, open the app and take a few more training shots, now it recognises me every time.

Does it also have the S2 ICS flaw in that it recognises and unlocks with a picture of you on another phone?

Not sure if the Blink detection is incorporated in the app, maybe Stonkr can confirm. I would hope so since the later Face Detection model incorporates the blink detection, not using it would be a little lazy.

I can use a photo to unlock it on my SGS so it's not totally secure.

But then if I lost my phone or it was stolen, they would need to get a suitable photo, which they wouldn't have.

I just want to stop any nasty texts etc being sent prior to it being wiped and sent abroad.

This was getting annoying constantly asking for unlock even when moving within the locked apps. I've now turned on the delay lock facility and it's a much more user friendly experience.
