Samsung Galaxy Devices not working with Activesync

    Hello everyone

I am an IT provider for a company that just replaced their Exchange 2003 with Exchange 2010. I did the migration on the weekend and it went without a hitch.

The customer has many devices connected with activesync, Iphones, Ipads, and Android devices (a samsung galaxy s, and sII, as well as a motorola).

After the migration, all the I-Devices and the motorola had no issues, nothing had to be done for these devices, once the new server was online they started receiving mail no problem. The Samsung devices, not so much.

Assuming something went funky, i removed the partnership on the exchange side, then removed the Exchange account on the device, and rebooted. After it started up i joined the device to the exchange again, it joins successfully, but it never populates email. I can compose emails and they will send just fine, but nothing will ever show in the email folder on the phone itself.

The reason for asking this here, another user with a galaxySII has exactly the same issue. I have tried joining my Arc and it had no issues, as well as the motorola device.

Is there something i am missing with these Samsung devices? Any ideas? The users are not very keen on a factory wipe so i would like to avoid it if at all possible.

    Thank you!

I don't use activesync so am not familiar with it, my understanding is that you still use an e-mail client on the Samsung device? If so it's likely that it's the stock e-mail client that is the problem. Have you tried a 3rd party app from Google Play?

There have also been issues with certain firmware versions but over the 2 generation of phones it's hard to believe.

I have not tried a 3rd party app as they all cost $, and these phones are running gingerbread, so they should be supporting exchange out of the box. But thanks for the suggestion, good if im in a jam.

Anyone know if there may be config files left behind on the phones or something?

    Cheers!

There are free 3rd party apps on Google play, unless there is a legal clause on the creators part that corporate bodies cannot use their app without some financial contribution/donation etc then go ahead.

    GPlay - K-9 Mail
    Naver Mail
    MailDroid

edit: I've rarely heard the term 'out of the box' used with Samsung unless it's in a negative way

Alright i shall give it a try then, i cannot go onsite to do this till tomorrow (as it is a 90 minute drive to the site) so i will do so tomorrow and report my findings on the use of these apps. Thank you for the suggestions of apps.

Now if these do work, my question would still stand, anyone know how the Samsung email software works? And why it might be causing these issues?

I work for a few large restaurant chains and they have recently purchased some Samsung devices as we are working a new Android app. I'll check with our IT department too see if they use Activesync in anyway or if they can shed some light.

There's a link here with various solutions ranging from avoiding the use of @ and & in the password to syncing email through the calendar.
    Hope something works for you:

The Samsungs where I work are only used for testing the app in development and no-one uses them to check work e-mails. Hopefully a different e-mail client works.

I've seen this before. Try Touchdown, it usually works. I don't think the native email client on Samsung devices support the enhanced security built in to Exchange 2010.
