    Ending Applications

I just got my phone and was messing around with it, as you do, and clicked on "Task Manager". When that opened it showed that all of the apps I had been exploring were still open! I know very little about data usage/RAM usage so I am not sure if this matters? Do apps open in the background, but not actually being used, use my date or is it just an issue of having too many apps open used RAM and can eventually slow down your phone if you have a ton open? I have tried multiple ways of getting out of apps (back button, home button) but no matter what, they still show as open. Is there a way to actually close them other than going to the task manager?

Just leave them alone. Your phone will close them when it wants to.

Really? How does it decide when to close them? I have yet to go into Task Manager and see anything closed on its own.

Android is designed to do it that way. It loads up apps at startup which remain in the cache. When you use them they open much faster this way. If you want to open something not cached the system will close some cached apps if it needs memory to run the app you've selected. Its all very clever you know

If you long press the home key up comes a list of recently used applications (since phone was last turned on) that you can use as short cuts to get back to places quickly. You can scroll the list down to see them all. Not all those applications will be active. To see which are active press Task Manager and active applications will be displayed. If you try to close an application from this screen you get a warning "If you force stop an app it may cause errors". I have no idea whether this is an issue or not. However if you go back to the list of recently used applications you can close an open app by long pressing the image and chosing 'Remove from list' or press on the image and flick it off the screen. No warning comes up. It is removed from the list of recently used apps and in Task Managerthe app is no longer listed as active.

As others have said the phone is clever at handling open apps so dont stress!
