Latest Kies But Still Showing Old Firmware

    Hi,

I've got the latest version of Kies 2.3.1.12044_18, and have checked for updates.

I'm an UK O2 customer, but with a replacement handset that was provided by an insurance company rather than the original carrier supplied one.

Kies says the current firmware version as:

    PDA:K14 / PHONE:KI1 / CSC:KE1 (MTL)

And says this is the latest firmware.

Which seems incorrect, as the phone is still on Gingerbread.

Any ideas on why the ICS update isn't available?

    Thanks

Hello, Ripsa. In which country are you based?

I think the problem may lie with your CSC as the region is Europe Bulgaria.

Thanks. I'm based in London. Any idea on how to fix this? Should I manually upgrade with Odin in this case? Can the CSC be changed to the correct region as I'd like to use Kies if possible?

Forget Kies, just flash the latest ICS from www.Sammobile.com via Odin.
You can choose open European (CSC "XEU") if your phone is unlocked or if not use CSC "O2U"

Before flashing ICS as per RichH, you may want to try and adjusting the CSC so that it shows that your are based in the UK.

Go to the dialer as if you were going to make a call and dial *#06# and this will show your IMEI number. It will be a 15 digit code. Write it down very carefully.
Now dial *#272*Your IMEI# but replace the words "Your IMEI" with the 15 digit code you just wrote down. So for example you would dial something like *#272*213245765434567#.
You will get a list of CSC's to choose from. You should select "XEU" and click install. Your phone will probably reboot now and you might need to set the keyboard type and location stuff again.

Doing the above will cause the phone to Factory Reset so backup anything you need, contacts and apps etc.

I find it quite bizarre that a UK network would ship phones with a CSC that is nowhere near where the phones intended use is !!

Don't forget this was an insurance company replacement so probably went to cheapest market.

Yup, which means it's a pain to now sort out.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to try reseting and changing the CSC, before flashing it with the new firmware.

In all honesty, all you will end up with is an XEU CSC. If the rest of the FW doesn't match with an XEU CSC Kies will still not update you as it will think you have a custom ROM installed. Nothing to loose but don't pin your hopes on it...
