Please Respond ONLY If You've Owned An iPhone

I wish phones were like cars, and you could test drive them. I've had an iPhone for the past several years, and loved it. However buying a new one every 9 months to keep up with latest model is growing tiresome. I also don't like to blindly follow someone without trying an alternative. Of all the phones I've reviewed the Galaxy II stacks up the best. I wanted the Galaxy III but I have to make a decision in the next two weeks, and it doesn't look like TMobile will be getting it by then.

Point of this post is I'm looking for honest members opinions that have owned an iPhone and an SGII and honestly tell me what you like and dislike about the experience. I know this is like walking into McDonald's and asking them why the Big Mac is better than the Whopper, but I'm hoping amidst all the "groupies" I'll get some real feedback from people who have owned both phones and their experiences.

Never owned an iPhone so you can stop reading now.
However, I do have some views, but like any other it will be based on a limited experience of the phones I've had.
    If you want a proper comparison go to a review site;
Here's one, but a Google will find plethora of more :

My company "forces" an iPhone on me so I use both daily, side by side. I posted this on other forums but I'll repost it here too....
iPhone cons- Small screen, reliance on iTunes, inability to sideload apps, general Apple control on what you can do with "your" phone, inability to customise the user interface, non-removable battery, no MicroSD, no MicroUSB.

iPhone pros - The inability to customise perversely means "generally" speaking it's more stable (and it is less techy) but the cons mean it'll never be the phone for me.

Used to have an ihpone 3gs before the sgs2.

With a jailbreak the iphone was ok, as i could customise it more. I'll do a pro and con list too

    Iphone Pros.
    slick scrolling
ability to jump to top of page at one touch
    easy to use for dummies
    More apps

    Iphone cons.
    cant remove battery
    cant remove memory
    Cant customise much
    wont play as many files
    itunes
    no back button
    no flash in browser

    SGS2 Pros.
    Plays almost any file type
    can customise so much
    back button is a godsend
bigger screen (my ipod seems tiny now)
although less apps, there are some amazing free apps

    SGS2 cons.
    Errrr
    Hmmm
ooo ooo i got one, Kies is pretty rubbish unless youre lucky enough to get it to work..

Many of the things i hate about the iphone are the things i love about the SGS2

The main differences, I think, are...

iPhone is good for people who want a phone to work straight out of the box, but then you may get frustrated at the restrictions.
SGS can be frustrating at the start but then the freedom of Android wins you over.

iPhone has better HD games at present.
    Android is catching up.

iPhone has a lot more apps.
Android appears to have more ad-supported free to download apps that cost on the iPhone.

iPhone is so much easier to backup.
SGS can be tricky as there's no one-stop backup solution just yet - this, in my opinion, is THE biggest failing.

iPhone perceived quality is better - I've seen a 4 with only a small chip that had been thrown through a car window and bounced off the road. Then I've seen a 3 that fell 2 feet and cracked the screen.
The SGS is criticised for being plastic, how many phones end up in plastic cases anyway, plus that plastic will absorb any impact better. My SGS is almost two years old and almost looks like new.

If you're good with your tech and want a device to make your own, and customise with ease (once you learn how), get the SGS. If not, probably stick with Apple.

EDIT: Almost forgot, if you go Android, you will be looked down upon by iPhone owners, generally.

I could be wrong, I usually am. (Because it's only a phone)

Agree with Stonkr. The iPhone is good if you just want it to be a good phone. If you want to make it your own you need Android. Have owned both and couldn't go back but it was hard work to learn. Worth every moment though.

I was an iPhone user for 2 years, I think the above just about sums it up for me too.

It took 2/3 days of constantly playing, fiddling, looking, you tubing, etc, to get over my 'OMG what I have done swapping to this' to get over the shock, but once through the pain barrier I love my SGSII and would NEVER go back to an iPhone.

I'm seriously unhappy about the sync with Outlook issues I'm having, but would still not swap back to Apple.

My phone is still 'out of the box' no rooting or flashing

I've used an iPhone and pretty much agree with Stonkr's opinions.

iPhone is brilliant for ease of use and straight out of packet.

I find the iTunes a stepback as you shouldn't need any program to put media on the phone, you should choose if you want to sync.
I also like to to take the battery out and use an external sd card.

Samsung need a little more TLC but that's what we are here for.

Thanks for the feedback I think I'm getting the picture. I actually work in the IT realm, and the thing I've found most frustrating with the iPhone is the lack of customization. And if you "Jailbreak" your phone, it's like you've committed a sin or done something illegal. The main reason I was looking to switch was for that freedom. However as one person mentioned, Android users are looked at as lepers by other iPhone users. Eight out of nine people at my office have iPhones and they relentlessly rag on the guy with the Android. Of course most people care about what others think (whether they admit it or not) Apple has built their brand, in part, on this elitism.

I'm digressing, but it sounds like pound for pound the phones are on the same level. And I am a tinkerer, so I look forward to the hours spending tweaking my phone. I just mostly wanted to make sure it wasn't a bunch of "fight the man", "fuck Apple", users that were putting up with a sub-par phone because they were too proud to admit that the shiny, expensive, trendy, phone was actually a better phone. I didn't get any of those undertones from the posts I read. Most genuinely loved their SG and didn't find it necessary to bash the iPhone. I really respect that. Again thank you all!
