Question Get Kies to update mobile

    Hi
I have used Odin to put ICS on with much help, but I am not an expert user.
I was hoping that once I had updated Kies would recoginse my S219100 to do any future updates, it sees my mobile but Kies will not recoginse my phone to update firmware/ software. I have checked out my mobiles IMEI and it only give me an option of KOR What do I do to get it to recognise my mobile. I know I have to change the CSC to XEU but not sure how to do this and do not want to undo the good work already achieved.
    My CSC 19100 PWLP5, BUILD INFO Tue Apr 3 19:44 KST 2012
    other info is PHONE 19100XXLPS
    PDA 19100XWLP7

Thinking idiots guide / advice maybe required here, thanks to any replies in advance:mad

For Kies to provide the updates you have to be on the stock firmware for the model. But frankly, why not stick to Odin. It's much better update software and more flexible as you can choose any firmware you want, as well as going back to old firmware. Try doing that with Kies.

This app is probably the easiest way to change your CSC https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...NzLnNnc2NzYyJd but it will perform a factory reset so back everything up first
NB. To clarify, changing CSC requires a fatory reset - It's not the apps fault !!
No guarantees that Kies will recognise your phone though even with an XEU CSC, it depends on other aspects of the firmware too...

Hi Rich H and Greenman, without your help last time I would not have know which CSC etc to use, that is why I was thinking Kies may do it, but I agree if I can avoid using it all the better, is there a book or something were I can learn more about all this, for example how will I know when to update again and how? just need to understand it all, I am a bit nurdy like that, and what is a ROM I know it means read only memory but what does it do? Really greatful for all your helps so far but know I can try the most patient of people, Yes I have also read changing it to XEU may not work too as my IMIE clearly says KOR even with rooting and updating to ICS,. Any advice on how to learn an idiots guide or something would be great. What do you mean for example on other aspects of firmware - see what I mean...I will take a look at the link too, thanks. Also agree with Greenman would prefer to stick with Odin if I could understand stuff more.

You can always check on wwwSamMobile.com for the latest fw updates and flash them by Odin. Also look on XDA Developers forum as there are many different ROM's on there you can try out and play with.
The ROM is the actual operating system + apps part of the phone.
The more you play, the more you learn.

Pluto, the operating system on your phone is android, but like cars there is more than one type, and on your phone these are the ROM's.
Now back to the car analogy, you can buy a standard BMW from a dealer or you can buy one that has been modified - usually to make it go faster.
The same with your phone and it's ROM's. You can put on a standard or stock ROM - as you have done by going to sammobile, or you can put on a ROM that has been modified. That is by someone who looked at the stock ROM and thought - I can make this better.
Some people want a faster phone while for others longer battery life is more important.
So the firmware, which is in the ROM, is effectively the brain of the phone and controls all the functions.

Now if you are happy that your stock ROM/firmware does what you want, then there is no need to change it. If, however, you want it to go faster, have a different look, or wished there were certain functions, then it's time to look around. But if I may return back to the car analogy, no one can tell you which is the best for you without knowing what your requirements are.
Most of the alternative firmware can be installed via Odin.
A little simplistic, but hope it helps.
