Unhappy Can I change default settings?

I change my settings, but they change back all by themselves every time I turn my phone off and back on.

For example, I'd like my time to stay on EST, but I live on the edge of a time zone, and it keeps automatically changing to CST, even though I keep turning off the "automatic" setting. It changes back to automatic by itself.

I'd like my screen brightness to stay down, it turns itself back up. I'd like my system sound volume to stay low or silent, it turns itself back up to full volume.

Is there a way to make my setting changes stay where I put them?

It would appear that your time is changing according to your location, so turning off GPS may be the answer.
With the brightness, go to Settings > Display > Brightness and turn off automatic.
You can set the brightness from your Home screen by sliding your finger, left to right across the top of the screen.
The volume change is a mystery and can only think that while holding the phone you are pressing volume up.

Thank you, Greenman. As I said, the brightness turns itself back up. I am not resetting it to the higher setting. Other phones that I've had allowed you to turn off the "automatic" setting for the time zone. This one does too, but it doesn't stay off. It turns itself back on.

Apparently it's irrelevant to have separate sound level settings for different functions, if all it takes to turn ALL of them back up, is to turn up the call volume.

I've never before had a phone that would not keep the settings how ever I put them. This is the first one that appears to be designed to change them to whatever they were to start with, repeatedly, and has no way whatsoever (that I've been able to find) to save the new settings as the new defaults.

Yes, I can reset all of this stuff every single time I turn my phone on. I'm hoping that's not the only answer here.

Understand what you are trying to achieve and can only confirm that after switching off automatic brightness setting, my S2 remains at the level I set.
Do you have any battery saving application that may be interfering with this?

There's only the thing that it came with, the power controls so you can reset various things to save the battery, that you can look at to see where the power's going, and make changes if you want. Why would a battery saving ap keep turning the brightness up so it uses up the battery faster?

If your setting stays as you set it, (and I did turn off the automatic brightness, repeatedly, it turns itself back on) maybe my phone is defective. Does your time zone change back to automatic, or is that an issue for you? I know most people don't live right next to the zone lines, like I do. My DH and I use EST because that's where his job is, and where we do almost all business. Having the phones reset constantly to CST is a real nuisance, and confusing when we have appointments, etc., or need to use the alarms but keep having them go off an hour early or an hour late.

I have heard of a phone not holding its settings and t was the phone itself that was defective. I believe it was somebody with a galaxy s on this forum and it was sent away for repair and after second repair the phone was replaced under warranty.

Alison, thank you. I'll call my service provider and ask them about that, I don't know whether to call them or Samsung. But thanks, I didn't know if mine was defective or if they were just made this way. It wouldn't have been the first really stupid design I'd encountered.
