Give me more space on /system

How do I get more space on /system?

Does the OS do something dynamic when a 'proper' install happens?

Im hacking on the orange signal boost app but it says I dont have enough space. The odd thing is before I factory reset my phone I had some thing like 4.5Mb on this path.

    Any ideas?

I dont want to start deleting apps....some sort of fstab solution?

    Thanks.

I decided to have a spring clean. So I factory reset the phone.

Prior to this I had already hacked the Orange Signal boost app on to the phone. One of the files is 4Mb.

When I came to do it the second time I only had 58K free on /System....
I deleted a fe apps out of /System/app I think to get some space back.

So did you try to hack the file inside the phone? I don't think there should be any limitations how much an app size can grow if you copy it out and in the phone after hacking.

I agree with Alison that 4.5mb is very small and suggests it was a zip file.
There has been a discussion on this already on this forum and may be useful to have a look .

BTW You can remove /system and still boot your phone into recovery or download so that you can reinstall your ROM.
After that, install your Orange booster app and use Titanium backup (if rooted) to integrate into your ROM.

Just a thought though, wouldn't it be easier to install Orange firmware and then delete and Orange crapware using Titanium?

Surely app sizes are in megabytes instead of gigabytes? Regardless if they're packed or not... Apk is a packed file format though.

Bit confused here, yes, apps are in MB. It was my understanding from your question that you only have 4.5mb of space left to install apps, have I got this wrong? Hence my saying that's not very much.

One of the files libswitch.so - i think - is about 4Mb is size. When I first hacked the boost app onto the phone I had the space there.

After the "factory reset" the space wasnt there!??!?! So I deleted a few apps from /System/apps i think.

This was all done with root explorer.

    Hope this cleared it up!

Still confused. Lol. Just looked at my storage and total system (where the firmware gets installed) is 2gb, I still have 1.75gb left there, used 178mb. Most apps are installed the the internal sd card (somebody correct me if I am wrong) so you should have enough space left for the orange app I would have thought. You would have to install an awful lot for that to become too full.

Still not sure I am understanding you right as your post is suggesting you don't have enough space left on system and that you only have 4.5mb space left.

    Am I missing something?
