I'm not too sure how tech'y fingered you are, but its a reasonably easy repair to do yourself if they are refusing to do it under warranty, you can get the replacement OEM part off eBay for $8 and do it yourself. it will take about 30 minutes for a first timer, there are instructional videos on YouTube .

i did my own recently , after having similar problems to yourself , not charging properly, voltage too high error after charging, cant turn the phone off(it will just reboot instantly after shut down.

i think you should consider it if Samsung wont help you.

I think for the future you should consider insuring the phone. They are expensive, easy to damage and repair will cost you lots of money. If you sure that you didn't cause the damage you could argue that in court (that is what I would do here in UK), but normally nobody is with their phone 24 hr a day, so you cannot be 100% sure. The photos show obvious water damage.

water damage can be caused by the phone being in your pocket and moisture from your leg sweat getting into the usb port. any kind of moist or warm/moist area of your home could do it also.

Thank you for this suggestion... we may try it, although we feel that this phone can never be our friend again even if we do repair it!

Thanks again. This is the conclusion we've had to come to. It's obviously not a major issue with the phone otherwise thousands would be affected. And yet there is evidence that other users have had the same experience so the design could have been a contributing factor.

The more I think about it the better your idea seems. Could you kindly supply references to the part required and the link to the Youtube video you would recommend. Many thanks. Regards

Just wanted to let you know that my SGS2 has never been in contact with water and suffered from problems like battery overload, phone thinking that charger was connected while no charger was attached, irratic battery life times, screen timeout not working. When I sent it to the repair service it was returned with the remark "water damage". I firmly believe the SGS2 is too sensitive to moisture problems. Having sweaty hands or taking your phone to a warm country can never be considered a user fault, while the shop where I bought the phone bol.com simply states it was a user fault and nothing can be done to repair it. My phone is still in its warranty period. I have been browsing the internet and I believe the problem is bigger than they want us to believe. Many people have replaced the USB connector board, or "toothbrushed" the USB port, solving their problem, and are living in happy silence, but from I read and experienced not much help was provided by Samsung or companies that sell these phones. So here I am too share the disappointment. It would be nice if Samsung did something like Toyota often does - "We know we have a problem, but we will help our customers fixing it".

Is it a scam by the phone repairer?
You should ask for your phone back so that you can check it yourself.
