Just use Vol up + Home + Power button and hold till Samsung splash screen then let go of buttons. You will then be in recovery mode....

Brilliant thanks will try this after tea, does the mobile need to be off - what will happen after and will it unzip CWN etc as ROm Manager will not work it says that it needs to be rooted first. Just a bit scared and need the belt and braces answer, thanks load though for getting me this far.

The yellow triangle is very easy to get rid of using Triangle Away from Google Play.

Yes, phone needs to be off. When you boot into recovery mode you will see an option to "install from sd card" Use vol down key to highlight that option then execute with power key. Choose the CWM.ZIP file from the next page (with Vol Down key again) and click the power button. Phone will reboot into CWM recovery screen. This is now a TOUCH screen. Touch on install from sd card again (second option on the list from memory) and choose the su_installer.zip file (or whatever the name is of the root file you downloaded). Phone will do its thing then should reboot and you will be rooted. Look in apps list and you will see superuser if successful.
Once rooted RomManager will work for any subsequent ROM flashes, updates or backups.

Hi Jejoma thanks for that I am currently trying to root my samsung s2 i9100 but not having much luck at the moment how did you root yours and are you using ICS. thanks help has been fab so far think it is my own skill level that is lacking...

Hi I have just put in recovery mode and selected from external drive it has gone to a green android man with a blue spinning in its stomach area is this right and if so how long does it go on for,if not how do I recover from it.....

Yes and thanks it is but Ihave managed to get it in recovery mode and select from external drive the android man has appeared with a spinning stomach and is doing nothing else - can you advise what have I done wrong and how to I get out of it..... sorry but stick with it if you will Pluto

LOL. Dunno about the spinning thing.... Lets go through it 1 step at a time.
Into recovery mode. Use vol down to selelct "Install from SD card". On the next screen choose CWM.zip and press power key....

I don't blame you laughing but I am sweating here, right I have an option of apply update from external storage there is no install from SD option so I have selected the external storage assuming this is right and pressed the home key, then I get the green android with a blue spinning stomach it does nothing else...
