I rooted ICS with this method.

TIP: Choose the ROM manager site to download the 'touch' manager as it works really well.

I have downloaded and unzipped as stated it just gave me odin should there have been a PDA file please, also there was no password required.
really thankfull for your help do not give up on me once I undeerstand I wilo fly.

There is no password required for the Odin file download but you then need to download the firmware from the link greenman gave you and use the password to unzip the file. This should give you 1 file which you put into the PDA section in Odin. Tip: Make sure the box goes yellow to confirm Odin can see your phone, then click text box to brose for file. Load it up then click Go.

I appreciate that the first time you flash firmware by Odin it is a little stressful, and as you say, once you've done it once you will fly.

All the information you need has been given, so I am repeating myself, but for clarity do this:
    1. Watch the video on flashing ICS via Odin: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-pho...y-s2-50006766/
    2. If you haven't installed the drivers on your computer via Kies, then install from here instead: http://uploaded.to/file/xeczx9xt
    3. Connect your phone by USB to computer to let the drivers install.
    4. Download Odin3 v1.85 to your computer here: http://goo.gl/FSezk
    5. Go to sammobile and download I9100XWLP7 4.0.3 2012 April I9100XEULP5 United Kingdom / Ireland to your computer
    From here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?p...00&r=1#regiona
Unzip the file and you will get ONE file: I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XEULP5_HOME.tar.md5
    6. Open Odin and put the above .md5 file into PDA (do not change anything else in Odin)
    7. On your phone go into Settings and tick 'USB debugging'
    8. Go unto Recovery mode : turn off phone and then press Volume up + Menu + Power button until recovery screen appears.
Use volume button to select: (You may want to look at RichH post here :http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/show...ret-to-success
    a. Clear cache
    b. Factory reset
    9. Put phone into download mode: turn off and then press and hold volume down + Menu + Power button until in the warning screen.
Accept and you get to the Android man.
    10. Now connect your phone via USB and MAKE SURE you get the yellow box and confirmation that your phone is connected. (DO NOT GO FURTHER UNLESS YOU GET THIS INDICATOR)
    11. Press Start and be patient while Odin does its job, after which you will get a Success indication.
    12. Your phone will restart - give it time, and you will be presented with the new ICS start screen.

Thinks that's about it, but must stress WATCH THE VIDEO.

    good luck.

Hi thanks to you i now have ICS on my phone it really was down to your help. Now I need to root I have looked at the websit and can I ask how do I reboot to recovery as never done that before. I have downloaded the CWM and busybox to my sd card. Is there a rooting method through Odin also.Once again a massive thank you for advice so far - Pluto
    • Download this File first and put in your SDCARD
    - CWM via stock recovery or download zip from http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
    - SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
    • Reboot to recovery.
    • Choose apply update from external storage.
    • Choose CWM.zip and wait until CWM recovery appear.
    • Choose install zip from sdcard or external SD
    • Choose and Install SU-Busybox-Installer.zip
    • Reboot
    • You are done and now your device is Rooted

The method you have listed above is an alternative to the Odin root method and is better in that you do not add to your binary counter or get a yellow triangle on your phone at bootup.

This will put ROM manager into your apps. http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Open ROM manager and you will find the second heading is Reboot into recovery.
If you installed the 'touch' versionyou select the item by er....well Touch!!
Once finished look in your apps and if you have Superuser then you are rooted.

Recovery mode is Vol UP + Home + Power. Remember, when CWM recovery screen appears it is a TOUCH screen to select options.

HI I have downloaded from the web page clicked on reboot to recovery and it just freezes I wiat and it asks Do I want to report error which I did and then it closes. Can I do this through Odin not really bothered about the yellow triangle, this method seems good if I could get it to work. Feel to close and yet so far away from final task of rooting. Wiaitng in anticipation.
