ICS update help

Hi All
I tried updating to Icecream (ICS) it did not work so I put my XXKG1 files back on (Andriod version 2.3.4 gingerbread). After much effort and tears, I could not get it to work on the new Odin download, I only managed to do it when I downloaded odin version three and it reflashed and rooted no problem, very frustrating though do not know why the new version of odin did not work and also why it did not update my S2 only crashed it, I also cannot use Kies keeps telling me to use PC studio.. Very frustrating as I am learning and have had many sleepless nights all I can say is thank goodness for titanium back-up and root. anyone have an idiots guide to updating to ICS please let me know, I would also love to have it rooted.

What keeps telling you to use PC Studio?? SGS2 is only supported by Kies, not PCS. What phone do you have??
I can email you root tool and files if you have ICS running on an SGS2

This Cnet video is as clear as it gets, but use your own ICS file from sammobile.

Rooting is very easy and this method does not increase your counter or leaves you with a yellow triangle.

Hi RichH thanks for your reply I have downloaded the idiots guide and will look tonight when at home. The Kies recognises my S2 19100 XXKG1 firmware but tells me it cannot update firmware. It just tells me to use PC studio.
I do not have the ICS running on my mobile, I did it once but put it back to gingerbread as it would only go online with a router and not in 3G so assumed I had done something wrong.
I would love the root tool and files they will be handy when I have changed it over. Why will only certain verwsion of Odin work, I use the version 3 Android + SLR the others I have tried just do not work. thanksagain. Pluto

You want Odin3 v1.85 for the S2:
The reason why you couldn't get on 3G is probably because your network settings had not been installed.
Following the update you would have had to put your network settings in again.
After getting ICS again go to Settings > More .... >Mobile Networks > Access Point Names (APN) and make sure your network operator together with your access method (PAYG or Contract) is correctly selected (green dot)

Hi thanks for all the help, I will try odin again as I cannot use the Kies it just does not recogonise my drivers although it sees the phone. What PDA -CSC - and modem do I use for ICS I currently have gingerbread xxKG1. Any clues as to what is wrong with Kies. Read through the links you have passed on thanks.

Before suggesting an ICS firmware can you dial *#1234# and let us know the CSC value?

XXKG1 is either Open Europe firmware on 2.3.4
or Slovenian firmware on 2.3.3
or Europe firmware on 2.3.3

Hi Just had a look on the web sit and I think it is open Europe, I tried to download the Kies but I had to register, should I do that. the android version is 2.3.4 the baseband version is i9100xxkg1-CL349526 the CSCvalue is GT-19100-CSC-Mulit-OXAKG1.tar
Do you think I have the wrong version of Kies and if what should I do I need it to be English. Should I just use odin and if so what to I put in the PDA - MOdem - and SCS slots to have a successful upgrade to ICS 4.0.3, really appretiate someone who know what I am asking thanks. I am comfortable using Odin just not sure what files I need. hope this information helps you help me... My phone is rooted so I would like the ICS to be if poss.

Ok, it's clear you need this version of ICS from the sammobile website.
I9100XWLP7 4.0.3 2012 April I9100XEULP5 United Kingdom / Ireland
1. Click download, and then unzip (Password sammobile.com) to give one file to put into Odin's PDA (just as in video)
2. Download Odin3 v1.85 here: http://goo.gl/FSezk

Hi thanks will have a go at doing this, can you confirm CSC and modem files you have listed - I9100XWLP7 4.0.3 2012 April I9100XEULP5 United Kingdom / Ireland, do they download as a pack and where do I get them from, sorry to be a pain just want to get it right.
I have downloaded and unzipped as stated it just gave me odin should there have been a PDA file please, also there was no password required.
really thankfull for your help do not give up on me once I undeerstand I wilo fly.
