There comes a time when you realise there is a better way to update your firmware.
Think you're about there, so if you want to install ics - and there are some lot of people wishing they hadn't - then take a look at this video, and then find your firmware at sammobile.com.

I'm not going to be any help with your connections problems.
But what I can tell you that I've had the phone for just over a week and in that time I've tried everything possible to get a connection using USB without any luck I've spent hours on the Internet and followed most suggestions again nothing.

Then on Saturday I got a message to say their was a upgrade to Kies air so I upgraded it even though I did not know what it was supposed to to do.
Anyway to cut a long story short when I got home I noticed the battery was low and as I was on my computer. at the time I decided to plug in the USB to charge it.
After about five minutes a message flashed up on my screen to say their was a upgrade due through USB.
when I opened the kies program to my astonishment I was connected to kies via USB and the upgrades was ICS.

now whether the kies air upgrade had anything to do with it. I don't know but I can tell you after many hours of trying I'm over the moon that I can now connect with USB.

No, unfortunately you cannot update firmware using Kies Air.
And Odin is simply a flash tool - just like the firmware update part of Kies - except Odin works.

if you want to give it a try - and it is recommended - then take a look at the video link I gave.
It explains it very well - although a bit heavy on the warnings - and you need to download a file from Sammobile to flash rather than the Cnet one given.
