Seen the advertising and seen it mentionedon some posts,I'm interested but can anyone recommend it. Would appreciate an answer in plain English as I get lost with all the techno babble.

He he!! No techno babble required.
If you can get a good O2 signal, have a phone locked to O2 or unlocked, and you want to use mobile data without worrying about amount used (within reason) then giffgaff offers excellent value.
I've been a member for over a year and find the service excellent.
There have been problems with new starters due to the popularity of the service, but getting better.
If you want to contribute to the Community and/or recruit others to giffgaff, then you get payback points.
Payback is paid out every 6 months and mine currently is over £150 which I can give to charity, take as cash or phone credit.
One last thing, with an S2 and if on ICS you are going to have to put in your giffgaff settings manually.
No big problem, but if used to the network doing it for you and if unable to follow simple instructions it may not be for you.
I have an S2 but on honey comb, I can follow simple instructions but I am lost with all the technical terms. I,m assuming with Giffgaff I just insert the simcard and awayI go.
No, that's what I was trying to point out.
Once you receive your sim card you have to go online to activate it.
You then have to wait for activation to complete and can take from instantly to 24 hours.
While waiting you can put in your Access Point Name (APN) that allows you to access the internet and send MMS.
Honeycomb is for tablets.
Do you mean Gingerbread?
If so, then getting your giffgaff data settings is very easy as there is an app in Google Play (Market) that you can install that will put in your settings for you.
If you upgrade to ICS then this app will not work and you have to put in settings manually.
You will be able to make calls and send texts if that is all you want but in order to use data services (mms, email etc) you will need to manually input the APN settings. I recently did this and it's nothing to worry about. All the detailos are on the giffgaff site and greenman was a big help to me also. I love the unlimited data for £10 month.... that was the big draw for me.
Sorry you are right, forgot. we were referring to my sg2 and not my sony s. I did mean gingerbread, it is build no XWKDD if this makes a difference. Must admit I haven't come acrossAPN is this the same as a user name, sorry for the ignorance.
LOL!
APN is on your phone.
If you want to look go to:
Menu > Settings >Wireless and network >Mobile network and look for Access Point Names.
If you select it, you will be shown your current network provider.
Select that and you'll be shown a list.
These are your settings to get you on to the Internet.
Brilliant understood every word, now I know what an aps means! Can't thank you enough, I think I will forget ics I am quite happy with what I've got but I will go to Giffgaff. Thank you again, you'r a good teacher!!
