hmmm .. need some serious help now ... even after a reimaging of ics from the samsung service center .. my problem persists ....
2 contacts starting with B are coming in A , similarly 2 contacs starting with C are coming in B and so on .... can anyone help me with this ???
In Contact > press Menu > Settings, try changing the criteria as to how the list is sorted.
You have Sort list by >Given name or family name
And Display contacts by > Given name first or Family name first
Then change back to your preferred.
If this doesn't work then I suggest you change to another launcher and its Contact app.
I use GoLauncher and GoContacts
Ok so i decided to go ahead with the upgrade and it turned out successful thanks to the link suggested by RichH. However i have noticed a few problems.
- When my phone is on and im charging it, the battery indicator at the top doesn't seem to be moving (as in showing that its charging, although it does have lightning bolt sign that its charging). Have any of you noticed this?
- More trouble with Kies updating, so i did the update through the phone directly with the server. It worked fine although i think i missed out on a few things, like no themes or any new background wallpapers. All of them remained the same..hmmmm
Are there any other major things i should be checking right now??
Thanks in advance
What you are reporting is exactly what you get - no obvious difference between ICS and gingerbread. Samsung decided to retain the TouchWizz interface.
You have to dig a little deeper to notice the differences. It's what ICS allows you to add to your phone that won me over, the main things being Chrome Beta, SVoice and Flipboard amongst many (although the last two need root)
This link may help you to spot the differences

mm .. i've tried everything but still .. no respite .... the issue remains ...
Even with a different contact launcher?
Are you sure that the sorting is not on the first name rather than the family name?
Since getting the upgrade (OTA for my unbranded, French I9100G), I've been unable to connect to 802.11n networks. I connect to 802.11g networks no problem at all, but the faster n networks don't show up as available. I checked the advanced setting in the WiFi Settings sections, and if it's set to 5GHz only I see no access points listed at all - I should see two. If I put it back to Auto I see the 802.11g access points.
Has anyone else seen this?
Another bad story here.
Three days ago Kies told me about a new firmware availability. After hours of hard work, sweat, fear etc Kies could update the firmware from 2.3.5 GingerBread to the 4.0.3. ICS. If I knew that it would upgrade to ICS I wouldn't do it! I thought it would be 2.3.6 after the upgrade. Which was the version of another new SII.
Now my SGSII heats up like hell when I watch videos. The Gmail application is unable to load my new mails. Screen sensitivity has issues. My files are garbled. (One has the name of a video file and its thumbnail is a picture that I had taken.) The pink/red spot on the camera is still there (I am now pretty sure that this is a hardware issue and not a software thing). Tasks that were previously working flawlessly are now suffering from delays, unaccomplishments etc...
I really think Samsung is doing a big mistake here:
First of all Samsung does not say anything about this cache cleaning, wiping business that everyone here insist on. I didn't now that this was necessary. I just plugged my phone and prayed many times.. There is no official guide to do a clean upgrade/downgrade.
Kies should definitely give the option to downgrade to at least two previous firmware versions. All it does is to ask if you would like to upgrade to the latest. When it is done, it is done. No way out if you don't want to void your warranty. This is disgusting. Now I am stuck with a phone that I cannot trust.
Kies should definitely have some kind of simulation process to determine whether the upgrade would succeed or not. No connection drop between the computer and the mobile is likely to occur etc.. I had my phone half bricked after the first attempt and had to enter the 3 button download mode.
Kies should save the upgrade file to the hard disk of your computer as soon as it gets it. I had to wait the download three times. I do not know how it could do without downloading it the fourth time.
What is this Odin or Heimdall ?? Where do they come from?? What is the point of naming software, that would void your warranty, after fairy tail characters with extreme powers?
He he! Like your knowledge of the classics, but totally unwarranted. How can installing official Samsung firmware void your warranty? There is no doubt you should have carried out a factory reset and Clear cache when coming from or going back to Gingerbread. You can do it now, but back up your phone first.
In ICS there is a backup to Google servers in Settings and you also have Kies to back up Contacts etc.
Now the choice is yours, stick with ICS or go back to Gingerbread.
To go back you cannot use Kies, so take a look at this site that shows how to install firmware with Odin (and lots if warnings on the way, which frankly are over the top)
