Customised ringtones to contacts not working

Hi, I have just upgraded to ICS, but now my customised ringtones to individual contacts is not working and nor is my customised sms alert tone.
They used to work okay on Gingerbread.
I have "Ringtones" and "Notification" folders on the root of my SD card. I go into each contact and scroll down to the ringtone and select it,but then when someone phones me it still plays the default ringtone instead.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks.

EDIT: Go into Contact >Ringtones > choose from Default/Ringtones/go to My files.

In Go to My files go to external_sd or wherever your files are to be found.
Make sure the selected tone/song has a green spot next to it and it will be assigned to your contact.

If you can't do this it may be the file format it is saved as.

I have tried this, and the ringtone plays when I select it,then comes up as that contact's customised ringtone, but still reverts to default when they phone me. (The default tone is in the same folder as the others on my SD card).
I'm not aware that I have done anything different to when I had Gingerbread, so I'm stumped.

That's what makes me ask if it's the file format the tone is saved in.
Can you right click and check format details?
Do you get the 'green spot to select'?

The files are in MP3 format. I backed them up before doing the ICS upgrade, then loaded the same files back on.
When I go to edit the contact ringtones, then select from my files,as I scroll down them and click on each one they all play okay. The selected one lights up the green dot,and when you go back into the contact details the file name for the ringtone is there.
It just doesn't play when that person rings me.

Does the correct caller ID show on the screen or does it just show a phone number?
It maybe the format that you have the number saved on your phone as. Might need to either add or remove the +44 (0) bit (or whatever country code you are in)

The Caller ID and photo of him/her display on the screen correctly,it just reverts to the default ringtone (which is in the same folder and format as the others that I am trying).
Just downloaded Ringo App and tried setting tones up using the app and all seems okay.

This may be smoke and mirrors but what I found was that if the contacts were saved on both the sim and the phone, the call would default to the the sim contact but the ringtone would be connected to the phone contact.
As soon as I removed the sim contact it worked,I know because the same occoured on my Samsung Genio.

Agree, that was the next thing I was gonna suggest - Duplicate contacts on SIM as ringtones can only be allocated to phone contacts.... Just hide the SIM contacts if you don't want to delete them.
