    media scanning running

Just updated my unlocked sgs2 to ics via kies and hasn't been the smoothest process.. Random restart every so often.. Maybe it just needs to kick in.. But I can't access my gallery as it just closes and says Media running.. Any one else have this problem? And any idea how to sort it
    Thanks

Gallery has not loaded properly (assuming you let it complete media scanning?). Probably need to do a factory reset.

Yea I left it for like half an hour
I guess I can backup my pics and stuff.. But that means I'll lose all the apps? Oh no
    Any other way?

Doesn't sound as the update has gone well and you may have some conflicts.
The restarts have been reported by users who came fro Gingerbread to ICS without carrying out a factory reset and clearing cache.
You could still do it now if the restarts continue, but backup first (now a feature in ICS Settings > backup & reset)
if gallery is the main problem then you could try restarting it, but first by going to Settings > applications (choose All) > look for and open Gallery and Clear data (this is the programme not the contents)
Now go back and restart gallery

When I did a factory reset my photos and videos stayed on the phone. My contacts are syncd to my google account so they came straight back to the phone and if you log into google play on your pc and go to the "my apps" tab all the apps you have downloaded will be shown and you can reinstall them from there..... In theory, this is what the "back up and restore option" should do automatically, but I have not tried it...
