I have the full body invisibleshield on the way in the post, I'll post my review of it when I have it. I've got no doubts it'll be a sure fire winner as I've used an InvisibleShield before on my iPod Touch. However, that was some time ago, I'm intrigued whether they have made the application of the shield easier as it was quite fiddly on the iPod. That being said however, when its on, its very thin, incredibly strong and has a grippy feel, ticking all the boxes on what I'm after when it comes to protection for my devices.
Day 1
Ok guys, got it through the post yesterday, packaging is nice, noticed however they cut back with not providing a lint free cloth like the last one I got. Inside the package you have the front and back skins, a spray tube of application gel and a rubber block (this'll make sense later).
Application:
The application was quite straight forward: clean your hands and your phone with a cloth, making sure theres no dust present (easier if you work in a dust free environment for this). Wet your fingertips with the application gel to minimise finger marks and easier handling. Peel the skin off the backing and spray the adhesive side with the gel, and then position and apply onto your phone. When in place, you can use the block to get rid of bubbles and fine tuning the position.
First Impressions:
First impressions were ok - I was expecting a lot more coverage for a product that boasts "maximum coverage", however I've found the screen skin a bit odd fitting, a little small in places and it does not protect the gunmetal metal surround on the phone which I was hoping for. The back skin also falters as it does not cover the corners of the phone which in my experience is the most likely bit to get abuse from heavy use. After my application, I've noticed a lot of micro bubbles and imperfections also, but the instructions state this is normal and should work out in a few days.
Using the Phone:
The phone is a LOT more grippier - a big plus. However finger dragging on the screen is a lot harder due to the natural grippy feel of the material. For me this is a big downside being a heavy swype user, however I'm hoping it will get easier over time.
I'm not going to conclude my feelings about this skin just yet, I feel it will be unfair to do so. I'll follow up with another update
Day 2
A day on I can only say I'm fed up of it already. Scratches have appeared in the corners of my case as expected from normal in and out of jean pocket use and the skin seems to get dirty real fast.
Also noticed that the screen protector has factory like marks on it which reflects light (noticed as small hair thin multicolour lines) which gives the impression of dead pixels. I admit, it may be a fault with my particular invisibleshield but it definitely dampens the superAMOLED viewing experience. I will rule out it was a fault from application as the lines are too organised than random and it is still present after reapplication. At this point I'll point out also that using the screen has not became easier, only more frustrating when you have dry fingers because you can't operate it smoothly.
I am really disappointed, they have done a substandard job with this skin and certainly did not reflect the same quality I received a few years back with my ipod touch skin which I can quite happily say is retaining its same purpose. Its probably time ZAGG goes back to the drawing board with this one and sort out what I believe is some serious flaws with a product which demands a premium price.
Pros:
+Scratch protection is the best on the market
+Rubberised feel gives phone more grip on surfaces and in hand
+Retains original thinness and look of phone
+30 Year Limited Warranty
Cons:
-Will not protect from drops on hard surfaces - no shock protection
-Gets dirty quick and retains dirt on edges of skin
-Unprotected on corners of phone
-Screen shield is too grippy, makes slide movements hard to accomplish with dry hands
-Screen shield may have reflective hair thin lines affecting screen
-Both front and back shields are not perfect fitting
-Demanding price tag
