For future reference. If you connect to Kies, you can back up photos, sms, emails etc before resetting phone.

Very unlikely as the data blocks will have been written over. If rooted you could try a recovery app from the Market (Google Play)
Did you carry out any recover/restore before reset, or have them on your computer or Picassa? You should consider a 'cloud' storage application like Box and set so that photo's are automatically uploaded when in Wifi range.
It's very frustrating, but also preventable in the future.

Carrying out a factory reset shouldn't delete photo's from your phone. If you formatted the internal SD Card then you would have lost the photos.
Photos taken with the Phone's camera can be found in a folder called DCIM.

You can check this though as they should re-appear in your gallery app.

You do not need Kies to backup your photos and I would suggest avoid using it for anything other than updating firmware.
If you want to backup your photos on the go then use Dropbox, if you just want to take a copy of the photos then just connect direct to the PC and remove them yourself.

Games and applications will be lost.

You're quite right TT. I've carried out lots of firmware flashing and resets and never lost any photo's. As you say they are stored in DCIM that is not touched by a reset. Would be interesting to know what else the OP did besides a reset.

On my galaxy s, that ended up wiping my sd card when I did the wipe. Had to remember to take the card out in the end cos I kept losing my photos.

In camera settings, make sure the photos are saved to your csrd and not the phone.
