You need to use Chainfire's LPQ 'proper' root.
Look on his site and you will see 2 roots for LPQ. Choose the second with the word 'proper' in it.
Thanks for that, all is normal again now!

Just as an update, I've now flashed LPQ again and it worked fine this time. I hadn't previously wiped the cache or dalvik cache, only factory reset, so maybe that helped. I've also used CF's PROPER root kernel and 'TriangleAway.apk' with no problems too, so all good. The only issue I still get, though, is not being able to use images from the gallery for the homescreen or lockscreen. I can use an app called 'Colors' to set the homescreen wallpaper though. Thanks for your help on this everyone

Setting your screen wallpaper should just be a matter of touch and holding homescreen and choosing Wallpaper
    OR
System settings > Display >Home screen wallpaper - here I get Gallery, ice cream sandwich (form market) live wallpapers wallpaper gallery
    OR
system settings > Display > Lock screen wallpaper - here I get Gallery and wallpaper gallery

I get all the options to set the wallpaper for the homescreen or lockscreen, from settings and the Gallery itself, etc. but when I select one the screen goes black, then shows me a box with the message 'Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped.' with just an 'OK' box below it. It then returns to the homescreen.

Sounds like Gallery hasn't loaded properly. Make sure you've saved your pics, then go into System Settings > Applications and find Gallery.
    Clear data and restart it.
If that doesn't work factory reset again.

If you did a factory reset & clear cache as you should when going from Gingerbread to ICS then your wifi security password will have been wiped. Search for wifi and insert password.

Thanks for the replay greenman, i insert password no luck! and i gone to change advanced options, proxy settings none to manual it's showing the HTTP proxy is used by the browser but may not be used by the other apps. I can't change the IP address, 192.168.1.128 is already there if i am putting a new address it will not accept, save option is there but it's not saving the new address, after that it's showing obtaining IP address or poor internet connection. I checked with different wifi but no luck...

Are you wanting to connect to mobile data or wifi?
    1. If mobile data, then you will have to go to Settings >Wireless Networks >Mobile networks > Access Point names and make sure your network operator is there with a green dot.
If not there you have to obtain the settings from your network operator - ICS doesn't allow third party apps to write your settings, so in my case - with Giffgaff - the APN settings have to be installed manually.
    2. If Wifi then go to Settings >Wireless Network > Wi-Fi > Menu > advanced > Make sure Network notification is ticked and Wi-Fi frequency band is set to Auto.
Now press back and select Scan (if your Wi-fi has not been listed)
Select your WiFi and put in any security code you assigned.

    Now that should be it.
if still not working it's a factory reset and clear cache to start again.
You may want to reflash as something appears to have been corrupted the first time round - possibly because you didn't do a factory reset/clear cache when flashing ICS the first time round.
