How do I join duplicate contacts ????????

Not a fan of joining duplicate contacts.

Instead I exported my contacts to sd card, logged into google on my PC and imported the .vcf file (created when exporting contcts to sd card) in to Gmail. From Gmail you can then organise and delete your contacts; then they are ready for syncing back at any time.

Easy. Install Go Contacts app. It has lot of features compared to stock one. You fill find Merge option therein. You can download it from Android Market.
