I am American, Just boguht the phone today and am stationed in Naples Italy. How do i update my phone, get facebook and Whatsapp?

Best to update the phones firmware before adding to many apps.

Go to the Samsung website and download kies. Kies is the companion software for PC. Once installed connect your phone with the USB cable, kies will install the drivers and once the phone has connected it will take you to the update firmware section.

If kies reports your phone is on the latest version you will have to wait for the next release.

There is all so OTA(over the Air) on your phone, which can be found: menu>settings>about phone>software update, you will need to set up a Samsung account first to use this feature.

Updating the phones firmware will wipe the phone so you will loose your google account, Samsung account, any apps you have downloaded.

thanks for the great info! im downloading the kies program right now for windows. only downloaded weatherbug, whatsapp, scoremobile, dallascowboys news, and fb. only ones i used on my BB before the keyboard stopped working yesterday

You do know the phone has it's own weather widget don't you.

lol yeah i figured that out like 10 min ago and set it on my home screen lol. i guess i should delete weatherbug to save battery and data transfer. I think it is the most upto date firmware as of right now

If you want to check what firmware version your phone is on, menu>settings>about phone>Android version, it will say something like 2.3.3, 2.3.4, 2.3.5.

When you connect phone to kies, does it say the phone has the latest version? I wouldn't be surprised if it does because that's what it tells me.
