    can we do a firmware upgrade for unlocked phone without knowing the unlock codes?

    hi guys,
    i am from india staying in seoul, southkorea for 2 months , i have bought gs2 used and unlocked version , i have 2 issues please help

    1. when i connect it to my laptop with kies in it , it automatically asked for firmware upgrade ... can i do it and will my phone get locked after upgrade and i do not know the unlock codes. what should i do for upgrade

    2.i want to use the phone in india and the shopkeeper was very confident it works, i have searched the internet and found india spectrum band gsm 900 and 1800 and umts or 3g -2100 , it is the same in korea i think, please help me.

    3. is there anyway to unlock this korean phone ,if i had to do it in india.

    If the phone is currently unlocked, upgrading the firmware via Keis will not apply any locks. I don't know what bands are available in Korea but I guess you could Google for that information the same as you did for India. If the bands are the same then the phone will work OK.

    thanks very much , you have relieved me a lot as i am searching a lot for rooting this korean gs2 which is very difficult, this means i can update to ice cream sandwhich when they release. and about the next thing do u know how to unlock gs2 of korean made

    I think you can unlock (I assume we are talking about SIM locks) by flashing an open firmware for your specific region.

    As previously stated flashing firmware has no effect on the sim lock

    Ah, my bad. I was labouring under a misapprehension!

    Check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/arch...t-1092451.html - but make sure you read the whole thread and remember that if it goes wrong there is very little if anything that can be done (for free by peeps on forums).

    EDIT: Okay, didn't need to but I was curious... Tried Chainfire unlock app. Ran but then told me that it couldn't find the code. Uninstalled and then tried the Galaxy_S Unlock by Helroz. This worked and was very easy to use. Of course there are risks involved and both these apps require root and busybox (which you will get if you follow most rooting instructions)
