Transfer of data / photos to laptop

Having great difficulty in transferring data/photos from my Galaxy S ii to my laptop.
When my Sii is plugged in to my laptop, within my laptop, it does not recognise the storage device within the S ii, but only acknowledges it as "other devices". So therefore I can not enter into the Sii device to transfer etc.
Would appreciate some credible solutions to this one.

If your laptop is on a wireless network then use kies air

I see you're new to the forum so maybe new to the phone. Have you downloaded Kies to your laptop off the Samsung site?

AirDroid works very well for wireless transfers between your pc and S2. It is free from the Android Market.

I'm having the similar problem with galaxy S2 and my desk top. When i connect to PC with usb i don't get any acknowledge of new drive on My Comp, nor anything on Kies. I haven't tried air yet. Should i give up on keis and try Keisair Couchwarrior?

I have tried marshmallows way to go and it worked for me BUT I had to use my local wifi and simply use the usb cable as a charger for my phone so it didn't keep cutting out to save battery whilst I was using Kies. Thanks marshmallow

Rather than just connecting the USB cable, try this sequence. Before you connect to the laptop, make sure Kies is installed (the drivers are needed) and USB debugging is not ticked on the phone (Menu > Settings > Applications > Development).

Now tap Menu > Settings > Wireless and network > USB utilities. Tap 'Connect storage to PC'. A message box comes up telling you to connect the cable. When you've done that a screen appears with a green android. Tap the 'Connect USB storage' button. The android should go orange and you are connected and should be able to see the internal and external SD cards as 2 removable disk drives on your laptop.

I've started to just use the "Box" app for this sort of thing, it seems easier and I can do it whilst in separate rooms from one device to the other (also I'm too lazy to find my cable)
