Contacts "Merge with Google" ??

Hi guys,
I was fooling around with the setting while searching through my contacts and hit "Merge with Google". Now a small "g" icon (meaning Google) is beside every contact in my contact list. I have 2 questions:

1. What does merging your contacts with Goolge even allow you to do?

2. Is there anyway to UNmerge, coz I havent seen a setting to undo it.

Not sure but taking a guess it uploads all your contacts to your google account.

If you want to see what has happened log on to Gmail using a PC and check your contacts list. I don't think there is a way to unmerge and can only offer a manual solution which is to organise your contacts using GMail on a PC.

I keep my contacts synced with Google as they are easy to restore after flashing new firmware etc.

Hey there,

1.What merging does is that it saves all the contact details in your Gmail account.Now you may ask how is that helpful.Well it is.You may Export this list and save it somewhere or this maybe useful if you want to get your contacts back later if you lose them or delete them unintentionally.Everytime that you sync,you basically sync your contacts on gmail to the phone.If you edit information on the Gmail account and sync(using Internet), you will see the edit in your Contacts on your device.

2. Certainly there is one.

Here are the Steps to Follow :-

1.Once your Contacts are merged, go to Your Gmail account.
2.Click on the red GMAIL Logo and select Contacts.
3.Now you will see a list of contacts which were merged to this account through your phone.
4.Now all you have to do is delete the Phone Contacts from that list.(I would also suggest you Export this list as it can be helpful and keep it on your mail/Documents).
5.Next, you have to go to Contacts on your device and go to the Sync Option.Hence it will sync from the Gmail account and delete the contacts which were merged.

NOTE: The Synchronization takes place and is effective only over internet(3G or Wifi).
