    rapid battery drain problem

    Hi,

I know the longevity of smartphone batteries aren't great, but within this last week mine has declined noticeably. I can't think that I've added any new apps that would be the cause. I've had this phone since July 2011 and I'm running 2.3.4 on my rooted SGS2, I use Battery Monitor Widget and SetCPU (which seems to have helped in the past). The only thing I've noticed but don't fully understand despite searching online is the high percentage of time the phone is 'awake' and whether that is a good or bad thing (I would assume it's bad to be awake if the phone is sitting idle). I have attached some screenshots to illustrate this...

I'm seriously considering the genuine Samsung 2000mAH battery upgrade. Any thoughts on a cause or can anyone enlighten me about what being 'awake' means?

    Any help appreciated. Lisa

Do you ever turn your phone off, or is it always left on? If left on (Like most people I know) try turning if off for a minute or two.

Vibration uses a lot of battery power, also how is your signal, it doesn't look to good on that Graph.

    My head is now empty

    Thanks for replying.

The phone is left on all the time. I do a soft reboot or pull the battery if needed, maybe once a week. It sometimes switches itself off once I have unplugged it from the charger overnight o_O whatever that's about.

My signal is pretty good. I'm in Liverpool, UK and 'mostly' have H or 3G. The only time I lost the signal on that graph was on the train to work when it goes underground as shown by the narrow red line on the signal band of the graph.

I dont understand how this is happeneing ! I changed to this from an htc desire and that gave me a full day at least and this is so frustraing as i am in love with this phone ! It runs the standard 2.3.3 and im considering selling it if the battery doesnt improve ! I bought an increased 1900mAh battery compared to samsungs 1600 and this gives me just over 6.5 hours life ! i believe i have read somewhere on here that 2.3.3 does cause battery drain issues so an update might help, also 2.3.3 is quite an old version the newest being 2.3.5 or2.3.6 although there are newer versions in test as we speak and will probably be sorted very soon depending on how you upgrade your firmware. for now tho i recommend updating to one of the others.

If you go to Menu > Settings > About phone > Battery Use it will give you a % readout of which apps are using the battery.

The screenshot there shows everything at 0% which is obviously wrong.

If you check out the stats using the above method, does any single app have a really high usage?

On older firmwares there was a bug with the Android System which was using excessive battery, but that got sorted out a while back.

I've had the phone 2 weeks and found that my battery life was lasting about 8-10 hrs a day with about 5 phone calls and numerous texting and some internet/app useage. I received a text notice notifying me that I was about 90% of my 2gb of allowable useage which caught me off guard.I went into settings and killed all the apps like email and fb that were constantly searching for updates. I figured who really needs to read their email that often? SO i'll just MANUALLY update my emails and fb postings as needed....because it's really not that serious. After doing that and Lowering my screen resolution to 10%, turning off wifi when not in use, taking it off auto brightness, that my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket lasted from Friday Morning to Saturday afternoon...easily 30 hrs. Very surprising and impressive.
