Heh, it might sound like that, but I only mentioned the dark sides of the galaxy s.

I've never owned an iPhone, or a mac... and I'm far from an apple fanboy. The only apple device I own is a third gen ipod nano. I think my arguments are valid. I'm fine with my Galaxy S, after rooting it to 2.2 it turned out to be pretty neat. I still feel like it doesn't perform quite as well as it should with its 1Ghz processor and 512mb ram though. When you're able to play asphalt 2, you'd think you'd be able to flip through home screens smoothly while using a live wallpaper.

I definitely agree with vmoisa. It's not a phone for the casual guy. For the everyday man who wants things to work straight out of the box, and doesn't spend time google'ing how to connect galaxy S to Kies, or reading tutorials on to root their phone, the iPhone 4 is a better option. Lets be honest here, we aren't "casuals".

I haven't tried playing video files with my new firmware, maybe I was just unlucky... my phone was locked to my carrier and had an unknown firmware version running on it.

Take care that stock Android does not play divX. The codecs for divX, Xvid and so on are added by Samsung ! Very few Android phones can play these files (HTC does NOT)

Regarding the comments about video - I'm hoping to upgrade from my Jet to the Galaxy S. I found that most PSP video presets work a treat on the Jet. MP4s with H2.64 codec, up to a certain size. I'm hoping the Galaxy S will like these plus a few larger res files too?
    Cheers

I didnt receive my SGS yet, it's on the way but I'm sure that things will get much better when the official 2.2 froyo upgrade becomes available. And that's why I bought it.
Just tired of flashing al kind of devices and dont want to go rooting this one right away....

I am just surprised that an "experienced" user would even start talking about a phone like the i-Phone, wich one is abusevly overpriced, clearly less capable, a real "hype" thing...

Perhaps you, as phone seller make a good buck with it? I would be happy with it if I was in this business too...but c'mon, dont start talking about that fool's item on an Android forum, man!

It can pretty much play any video format you throw at it. (And also has the TV out feature for big-screen action...)
I've just copied a 193MB MKV file (Disney Shorts 2008 - Presto) which is 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and it plays sweet as a nut.
I really don't think you will have any issues playing video on this device
