Are there any other wifi signals on the same band interfering?

That's the first thing I tried mark22, used wifi anylizer to see what others were using and set mine as far away as I could, in fact it recommended channel 6 so went with that. As I said I have even changed the router and that hasn't helped.

So the phone is off to Samsung for the third time, if it's still the same when it comes back this time, they have already told me they will replace it with a brand new phone.

So can you explain why, when I'm right next to the router, the wifi signal shows a full amount of bars but if I turn my back on the router it drops to 2 bars and if I move to the door of the room (about 4 feet away)it drops to 1 bar?
The number of bars indicated is arbritary and meaningless. The only real measure is the distance from the router when the link is dropped. But when you "turn my back" you are greatly attenuating the direct signal because much of it will be lost travelling through your body. The phone may then have to use much smaller signals that have bounced around the room.

I should also mention that a couple of friends have tried there phones on my wireless network and they can both get a good signal all over my house, one can even connect half way down the garden on his HTC Desire.
This is a much more useful comparison and certainly suggests that their phones are more sensitive or transmitting a stronger signal than yours. (It is usually the return path that fails first because the phone has to use lower power than the router)

But as I said in my first post if you want to get the best possible range from the phone you should hold it so that your hand and body absorb as little of the signal as possible. This applies both to the wifi and to the primary phone signal. Remember that your body is mostly water and radio signals do not like passing through water.

Hope they fix your phone this time, the only place I have trouble with my WiFi signal is the toilet
