Thinking of moving from Apple to Galaxy S2

    Hey all,

I'm currently a 3Gs user with ATT, and I'm up for a new phone. I am almost sold on the S2, Sprint version with the 4.5" screen, but I have a few worries about duribility. I use my iPhone for running, with an arm band or sometimes in a pocket. It's been rained and sweated on for 2+years now and it still works just fine. My question is, can I expect the same duribilty out of a Galaxy 2? It will be used as an actual phone very little ; mostly for running with the GPS activated (runkeeper), turn by turn GPS directions in the car, streaming music in the car to the stereo, and hopefully I can download TV shows to it and pipe them to my TV.

I just need to know that the thing isn't suseptable to heavy use, sun, etc. These things are really indespensable once you integrate them into your life! Also, most of my friends have android based smart phones, mostly Droids, and there is always some issue popping up with non-functional GPS after a drop or something.
I only have a 2 week window in which I can take it back to Sprint, also. After that there's a huge restocking fee...

Thanks for any input from runners and mountainbikers especially!!

    John

mine's had a few bakings in the sun, goes in shorts' pocket when i'm on the running/cycling machines in the gym, it's been dropped on a tiled floor but only from a couple of feet up

almost every day it's in a jersey pocket when i'm on the bike (road not mtb), i just use a thin leather slip case for it, i ride year round, so it's had plenty of humid/wet rides

    no problems so far

btw last week i had it on the sunbed watching videos in direct sunlight, it got a bit warm but the bright light visibility is surprisingly good

Had my S2 for abt 6 months now, well pleased with it's durability. Several drops and only corner scratches so far. Has fell out of the windscreen mount in my van several times as well. I have 2 small scratches on the glass front but these, I reckon, have been from inside my pockets from coins or keys, as every time I inspect the glass after a drop, there's nothing new.

Given the Iphone4 record of screens cracking after a single drop, the SGSII would seem a world apart.

I read on one forum (maybe this one) that someone accidently dropped their s2 in ocean water. Took it home, washed it out with distilled water to get the salt out of it, then let it dry out for a couple of weeks. It still wouldnt turn back on. They give up and bought another s2. Then about a month later they tried it and it fired up. Probably one in a million chances it would work again, but cool story anyway.

It must of been a clear and clean ocean, just to find it. Not read it here either, but I do have a short memory.

As for GPS, this I believe depends on multiple things like; firmware version, buildings, clouds ect ect. Best read about over people views on here about GPS as it may put you off or make you feel better.
