    Receving SMS attachments problem

    Hi there,

New user of forum and recent owner of Galaxy S2 here...

Just a quick question on receiving SMS attachments. So far I have recieved 3 messages with attachments, 1 contact (vcf) and 2 picture messages. Each time I have tried to view the message and attachment, the phone has tried appears to try and 'play' the attachment as a 5 second video. Strange I know. It's not too much of a problem, but to import the vcf contact I had to save it to the file system, then open it in file manager and import it into my address book manually. Also in the case of the picture messages I had to do the same, then view in gallery. Being a smart phone I would have expected it to do this sort of thing automatically, like my old unsmart phones have done.

Is there a setting somewhere I need to set?

    Cheers

Every android phone I've had does the same thing - it is most irritating!

Hi, if you hold your finger on the speech bubble a menu will come up, select " attachments" and you should be able to get it from there.

Ok this sounds like it has possibilities...but what the heck do you mean by the "speech bubble"?

The standard sms/messaging app is quite basic. The 'speech bubbles' probably refer to the messaging app, handcent. Available from Google Play (Market) and generally considered the best for Android phones.

Regarding receiving MMS, the solution seems to be:
    1. Make sure you have the correct APN settings from your network operator.
    2. In Settings > Wireless & network > Mobile network make sure 'use packet data' is ticked.
    3. Turn off wifi to receive.
