    Buying an extended battery

So I'm considering buying an extended battery and I see a genuine Samsung 2000mah with cover is around £25 but on Amazon you can get generic batteries upto about 3500mah for around £5. Is there any benefit from genuine Samsung batteries or are the generic ones just as good?

Generic ones as a rule are crap and nowhere near their stated capacity, for instance that 3500mah (which turns your phone into a brick) is fact only 2400-2500mah. I'd stick with OEM. Cheapest place i've found the Samsung one is here :

I've just discovered nicecans.co.uk appears to be a con so don't buy anything from them

I bought a cheap li-Ion spare battery for my SLR.

When packing for holiday I literally picked up the battery and put it down (on the case, no metal, not charging).

A few seconds later the thing was smoking. We took it outside and it burnt through part of the battery shell - clearly an internal short.

That was a cheap-ish ebay battery. It had about 1/4-1/3 it's stated capacity, at least compared to my D90 SLR original, and the safety angle got me worried.

From now on am buying "known brand" / original batteries only.

Imagine if that battery was in your pocket/device....
