No it's not common.
Where do you tap, anywhere? You should call the place where you bought it and get them to check it out.
Tapping anywhere, either the side or the screen. Especially when i tap at the bottom where the vibrator is located...
Take it back to where you bought it or give them a call to find out what they can do.
I'm asking because I have to mail the device to the store and I want to make sure first that what's happening it's not normal
