checking version and other settings

-i just bought the phone, i would like to know if i need to upgrade anything, and if it is needed. what do i need to check. i am quite a mobile phone noob. i read the manual and i thought i would know how the phone works, but i have still lots of questions.

-also i want to uninstall some apps i dont need, how do i do that?

-about kies, it is used for transfer between pc and mobile right? do i really need to install it, cant i just use the pc usb - phone usb to transfer files?

-about auto-rotate from normal view to landscape view, is it possible to do this manually? with some sort of quick tap operation or something. also i switched it off, but when i use the youtube app for example, it still auto-rotates.

-about the youtube app, is it there so you can view everything immediately in mobile phone format? and using internet browser, you would get the normal format? is it possible to switch to mobile format for websites when using the webbrowser?

-about android, and android market applications, are they safe to use? have they been checked by android admins or something?

-what kind of security measures are needed for this phone, like anti-virus, anti malware, firewall?

Menu > Settings > Applications > Click on Application you want uninstalled > Click Uninstall

You can use USB/MASS Storage Mode to transfer files. Kies is also used to update your phone's system software.

No manual auto rotate. The internet app still rotates the view as it is the internet browser and it's easier to view web pages in landscape.

Use an internet web browser from the market, you can then select the option to view webpages as PC Desktop and not as a mobile etc.

Software from the market is not cracked and is usually safe to use, so long as you are not downloading XXX or porn apps from the market.

There are also other markets such as GetJar, AppBrain etc

I have no security measures, anti-virus or firewall etc.

No, as far as I know.

You honestly need to ask this?
Phone turned off = Phone off.
Phone locked = Phone still on but locked (Ie: Stops you accidentally making calls while your phone is in your pocket).

Look under settings. Then look for USB settings (I think it maybe under network settings), then change it to either Mass Storage or Ask on connection.

The code you need is *#1234#, two symbols before and one after the four numbers. It doesn't matter if you have a SIM card or not, the phone screen jumps to the information screen immediately after dialing the code.

You just exit the player by the hardware back button.

You go to the previous program by just tapping its icon. It stays alive in the background unless you kill it. If you don't, it doesn't matter because Android terminates it after a while.

The other two issues I don't know, since I use Dolphin Browser and I don't back up my data to Google.

Hold down the home button and it brings up your task manager, from here you can select an app to get back into it. You can also click on task manager and then shutdown any apps you don't want open.

I would download Dolphon HD from the market or another internet browser, they're much better to use.

-i would like to use wifi as much as possible, cause internet use is kinda expensive. how do i make sure that im using wifi, instead of the connection of the phone provider?

-want to remove all apps and widgets im not interested in. but if i want to return some of them, can i still get them back somehow?
