I do transferts both ways. If you want to send via e-mail, do not send them all at once. I send 3 to 4 images sucesfully via e-mail. The other way is like Rich said, use the USB cable the phone comes with. After uploading DO NOT unplug without ejecting.

It would appear that the drivers have not been installed on your computer, therefore it does not recognise your phone when attached.
Which Operating System is on your computer, as I can post a link to the drivers, or you can get them via Kies.
Alternatively you can transfer wirelessly via Kies Air or I prefer the Airdroid app from the Play Store, but it's not as quick.

Thanks - I didn't know what Kies did but I downloaded it and it's easy to transfer date.

I then tried to transfer my Contacts to my PC, 2 files were sent which Win 7 doesn't recognise and can't find suffixes for

    Contacts001.ecsv.bak and Contacts001.spb

Do do know what went wrong

.spb is the kies format. You can rename it to a .csv file and import it into google if you wish....

Log into your Google mail and select the contacts tab, then import the .csv file and it will pull in your contact list which will sync with your phone. You can also edit it from within google which is sometimes easier than doing it on phone....
