Updates to SGS2 on Orange UK

    Hi

Looking at upgrading from an HTC Hero.

Am I right that you can download firmware upgrades from the Samsung site to get bug fixes/updates rather than having to wait for Orange? My experience with them on the Hero was they were so slow as they had to "brand" the updates - took ages to get from 1.6 to 2.1 and it never went any further.

Will Samsung support Ice Cream Sandwich on the Galaxy S2?

    Thanks

    Mart

Assuming you get the phone from Orange themselves then you'll have to wait for Orange to release a firmware update. If you get it from somewhere like Carphone Warehouse then it'll be simfree and updateable via Samsung.

    Hi

So I can't use Kies if it comes from Orange?

    Thanks

If your prepared to update it yourself, then yes (Also debrands the phone) or add custom firmwares. Otherwise if you go through kies then you'll have to wait for when they release it

As for Ice Cream Sandwich, I think it will start to melt and make your phone all sticky I'm afraid. It will be best to eat it or put it in the freezer

I think debranding would be the way to go, kies will only update orange firmwares as fast as orange do and as you say, that normally isn't that fast. You can always rebrand if there's a problem and buy a jig to reset the binary counter.
