What's coverage like with 3 in the UK?

Can anyone say they have good coverage here in the UK?

I am thinking of leaving vodafone and going with 3 as they seem to offer a better deal.

Any reasons why I should or shouldn't go with them?

pretty darned good. i was on o2 for years but ditched them due to the crappy patchy slow 3G signal.
i now get full HSDPA just about everywhere on 3.
i wont lie though signal does drop when your inside a building but not enough to not be able to use it if you get me ?
and on the rare occasion it has dropped completely its switches to orange straight away (orange are 3's partner company to ensure you get a good signal everywhere). hope this helps.

Yes, it does help. Sounds good so far.

Do you know if they have any deals to save you money when you go abroad and use your phone?

I have looked at their website and all I have found is what they charge you for roaming.
Vodafone have monthly deals that allow you to use your allowance and 25mb of data a day when in certain countries.

I will be in mainland Europe.

    good good

im not aware of any "bolt on's" for roaming, but give 3 customer services a call, or go into a store and ask maybe ? , ive recently been in the EU myself but had wifi signal a lot of the time so didnt miss my 3G too much (youll find there are a lot of free wifi spots in other EU countries) compared to all the pay ones in the rip off uk.

if only i earned commision ! haha youll find the internet blazingly fast too on the GSII on 3. uses less battery too having a constant 3g signal instead of the phone flip-flopping between network modes. my mate has a phone on voda and we can be sat next to each other, me with full HSDPA, him with 'g' , i found it quite funny the other day, he asked me why my phone said 'H' in the top corner as he'd never seen it on his phone !!

Is the firmware branded in any way?

I can always flash something if I don't like it.

To be fair I always get H on giffgaff, which is O2 and truly unlimited data.

Im on 3 and the roaming HSDPA and 3g is great. What is not great is that their phone signal coverage is not as good as vodaphones. A real shame and very irritating for me. Make sure you check your coverage via postcode entry before buying
