    Kies connectivity issues

It seems like a couple of people are having problems connecting their phones to the Kies application. I've tried searching for soultions and have tried as many as I could find with no luck.

My phone - Galaxy S2 with Vodafone sim - via Carphone Warehouse last week, so no Voda bloatware that I'm aware of

My PC - running up to date Windows XP (no driver issues relating to my phone in Control Panel)

Kies - latest version, as far as I'm aware: Kies_2.0.1.11053_99_3 (have unistalled and re-installed)

    What I've tried:
Phone in debugging mode, Kies asks me to reconnect in Kies mode. If this exists, how do I access it?
Without debugging mode, Kies tells me that my device isn't supported I've also tried with and without my additional memory card
I can access my phone via my PC using Kies air (wireless network seems to work fine, although still doesn't register this connection in normal Kies)
I can also access my phone's folders via explorer (and transfer data), so I know the USB connection is working

    Any ideas?

I have the SGS so can't imagine it is that different. If you go to>menu>settings>wireless and networks>USB settings, you should have three options, Samsung kies, Media player and Mass Storage. If you want to connect you phone to kies via USB select Kies. If you want to connect your phone as a mass storage device then select mass storage.

    Thanks Richard

The only setting I have under menu>settings>wireless and networks>USB utilities is USB mass storage

Any thoughts on why I don't have the other options?

A quick search and I found this, it would seem you can't select kies as I said because kies is supposed to automatically detect your phone when connected via USB. The following was taken from the Samsung support site.
I do know that you will need to make sure that .netframework is up to date on your PC, you can do a google search for it, it's a bit of windows software.

1 Using a PC data cable, connect the multifunction jack on
    your device to a PC.
    Samsung Kies will launch automatically.
If Samsung Kies does not automatically launch, doubleclick
the Samsung Kies icon on your PC.
2 Copy files from the PC to the device.
Refer to the Samsung Kies help for more information.

››Connect as a mass storage device
You can connect your device to a PC as a removable disk and
access the file directory. If you insert a memory card in the
device, you can access the file directory of the memory card
by using the device as a memory card reader.
The file directory of the memory card will appear as a
removable disk, separate from the internal memory.
1 If you want to transfer files from or to a memory card,
insert a memory card into the device.
2 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings
→ Wireless and network → USB utilities → Connect
    storage to PC.
3 Select OK to confirm (if necessary).
4 Using a PC data cable, connect the multifunction jack on
    your device to a PC.
5 When connected, select Connect USB storage.
6 Select OK to confirm (if necessary).
7 Open the folder to view files.
8 Copy files from the PC to the memory card.
9 When you are finished, select Disconnect storage from
    PC.

Ok, I've installed .netframework 4 (and restarted my PC), but still no luck.

I've also tried switching ports directly to the motherboard, but that didn't work either.

Phone is currently not in debug mode and extra storage card has been removed.

I can access the phone as a usb storage device, its just connecting to Kies that is a no go.

Start kies up, connect your phone, at the top of kies click on tools>install drivers. If it still isn't working try using a different USB port on your PC, is your PC a 64bit OS? if it is there are lots of reports about kies not working with 64bit OS's.

I did try the install drivers routine before and after I tried re-installing Kies, but still says my phone isn't compatible.

I'm running standard 32 bit XP.

Well it's not the OS being 64bit then. It's definitely kies you have installed and not Samsung PC suite?

When you connect your phone via the USB cable you need to pull the notification bar down from the top of the screen, you should see something like connect to kies, if you do tap on it and it should now connect.

Just another thought, are you using samsungs touchwiz 4 or another home launcher, like launcher pro, AWD, Go launcher, gingerbread launcher, if your using any third party launcher then kies wont recognise your phone. Go back to touchwiz4 and then try again.

Hi! Only received my SGSII yesterday, so very new! I have a similar problem that I can't connect to Kies on my PC (WinXP SP2). It constantly beeps trying to connect. It has connected twice, the first time it told me there was a Firmware update and then dropped the connection, the second time it stayed connected longer but then froze!

I then tried on my Samsung NC10 (WinXP Sp2) and it worked perfectly! I tried to update firmware but it eventually said "your mobile phone server is not available, try later"

However I was able to transfer my contacts, that had been my main objective.

I have un-installed Kies, cleaned the registry and I will try again later.

    Chris
