S2 stock headset in 'iphone' standard?

    Hai,

today I've made some testing - plugged S2 stock headset to my i8910 - it was going crazy, started calling ppl on its own, couldnt hear music well

amused with it, i started digging, and it appears the pinouts in S2 were changed to iphone standard versus all previous Samsung phone models (used to be nokia standard) - even galaxy s source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1072491

the difference between those 2 standards wiring in 4 pin 3.5mm plug - pinouts 3 and 4 are switched. In other words Mic line is replaced with Ground line.

If anyone of you got old iphone headset (one with mic) could you plug it in, make a call, try listening a song and confirm it please?

Got this confirmed by 2 people:

    iphone 1 button headset:
    - mic works
    - headphones works
    - button works (pause/play / skip song / answer calls)

    iphone 3 button headset:
    - mic works
    - headphones works
    - middle button works (pause/play / skip song / answer calls)
    - 2 volume buttons Doesnt work!

Today got hands on HTC HD2 headset with inline remote, (RC E160) suprisingly:
    - mic works
    - headphones works
    - middle button works (pause/play / skip song / answer calls)
    - next song button works
    - previous song button works

Does the FM radio still work with these other headsets? A dumb question - if I want to use the phone as a music player with headphones where pin 3 & 4 are one pin on the headphone jack will they work OK without damaging the phone?

This is great Info, Viggen! Thanks for putting up all those details !

I was wondering why my old i8910 headphones didn't work.
So I had been speculating, thinking if maybe Sony headphones would work.

I find Apple supplied headphones pretty stinky, even the in-ear models are mediocre.
The Samsung in-ear plugs that came with my SGS2 are pretty crummy too.
Even cheaper Sony headset models, while not being audiophile, have a much clearer sound and more depth.

If there is a similar diagram like you posted for other brands, like Sony for example, I'd love a pointer where to look...

if you mean using standard 3 pin/pole headphones (no mic or buttons) - then answer is YES, it will not damage your phone - those can be used with any phone / mp3 player

I've decided to purchase A-Jays Four, as the sound quality/price ratio is simply amazing ($60 USD) - dont get me wrong, those are not PRO IEMS, but for price range its a high end choice.

As for SE outputs, never owned any device, so all the info i can come up with is pure theoritical - but it seems older models used to have nokia pin standard, while newer ones share iphone std like:

    U5i Vivaz, X10 Mini Pro, Xperia X10, Xperia X1 GSM, Z710 / Z710i

here is complied list of "iphone" compatible devices:

Awesome, good recommendation, thanks once again, also for the link. $60 is about as high as one should spend, unless buying musician's in-ears molded to the shape of your ears and replaceable wires...

Switching to be conform with the Apple pinout is the smart way to go, since world and dog make headphones, speakers and what not for that.

This is awesome. I haven't actually tried my earphones in the phone yet. However, I bought a set of fake Dr Dre Monster Beats that sound terrific on the iphone but I couldn't find an adaptor to make it work properly with the SGS1. Now I have an SGS2 I'm going to have to pull them out of the drawer of crap and start using them.

    Deal extreme are awesome ;-)
