Internet connection issue

I have the Galaxy S2 on Tmobile, i am in a good signal area and have been told i can pick up 3g or HSDPA however my phone will only pick up G which makes surfing / downloading from the web virtually impossible, i have run through different settings with tmobile etc and nothing works, anyone got any ideas

To get 3G you need a 3G SIM card too, check to see if it says 3G anywhere on it.

The problem might be as simple as that.
