In Privacy I find that both "Backup My Data" and Automatic Restore" are both checked. Questions - 1) Where is the backup held" and 2) How effective is Automatic Restore?

Nobody on other forums seems to know either!
Maybe you should be the first to try it and let us know, if the phone goes kaboom its not my fault![]()

I've never found them to do anything. At all.
But, I read somewhere that someone waited for 'a bit' and they were informed of items to restore.
Maybe we're all too eager to restore stuff straight away. Maybe we should wait for the SGS to organise itself.
Or...
... kaboom...
I could be wrong, I usually am. (Because it's only a phone)

they are stored on google servers, part of google services backup transport. As its better to turn off and freeze these things for your battery, use titanium pro-well worth it- to freeze, and turn off/untick. Never found the 'recover my data' to work for the 9 months i was 'pure and unrooted'

Could you clarify please, my phone is unbranded PAYG as originally purchased. Do I understand you to indicate that unchecking these two features will increase battery life and leaving them checked is of little use to the user?
ahhh - sounds like you are not rooted then.... so you cant use Titanium... But yes, unticking them and rebooting phone will save a little battery as there is no background syncing having to take place. Can you advise phone specs from About Phone page is settings?
