    Overclock my Galaxy??

Does anyone have any opinion if it is wise to overclock the Samsung Galaxy S? I have downloaded Tegrak Overclock but have no idea how to use it?? Totally confused... Also I have heard it is very unhealthy to overclock the phone. Is this right?? Or is this a warning to discourage severe overclocking? I would love to get some faster performance from my great phone. I really like the Samsung, but am frustrated by lags and extended black screens.. I would love to hear your views.. Thank you ..

First you need a kernel that can be overclocked, but I doubt you have flashed this if you have lag.

No you don't really need to overclock as the phone is fast anyway

This is what you need to do:

1/ Type in " *#1234# " into your phone keypad to give what firmware you have.
2/ I think your best bet is to flash JPY (Android 2.2.1) via odin. There are may guides on this forum on what to do
3/ Once JPY is flashed, see how the phone runs, then decide if you need a lag fix or not

    Thanks Doomed,
I have been able to determine the firmware I have now, but still confused about the Ödin"idea ... I will do some more searching and reading and hopefully that will make more sense.
There seems to be a lot of JP3 and JP4 codes in my existing firmware ... should I look for these codes in any future kernal description?

Nope. That's just to tell you what firmware it is, most are just little updates (Bug fixes) of the same Android OS.

    I9000XWJM5, I9000XWJM6, I9000XWJM7, I9000XWJM8 are Android 2.1 updates,

    I9000XWJP6, I9000XXJPM, I9000XXJPO, I9000XWJPA are Android 2.2 updates,

    I9000XXJPI, I9000XXJPU, I9000XXJPX, I9000XXJPY are Android 2.2.1 updates, ect ect

If I wanted to I could start from JM5 and flash them all one after the other just to see which is the best, so to speak

Does that mean that I have been needlessly searching for a firmware ending in JP3 or JP4?? What a dummy....
I have seen heaps of firmware flashes posted from everywhere from Europe, Asia to the US. Would any of these work ok on my phone?? Or do I need to be careful so as to find a compatible version?? Sorry if I am asking the same question twice.. I am just trying to be careful I understand correctly.. Also, if they all work ok ... why are there so many of them??
    Thanks..

There are so many as even though the're all called SGS some have miner differences

I'm not sure if you can flash one from Europe or not as I haven't tried, but someone else from your end mite know

Or you could always try for yourself and hope for the best, but that may not be such a good idea.

    Thanks,
Yeah I agree ... russian roulette doesn't sound like a great idea to me...
I don't seem to be getting a response from anyone down under, so i might wait for Samsung to release the official version, although they are painfully slow ...
