My friend got his Samsung galaxy s from a phone shop in the UK and it came with Android 2.2.1 preinstalled...it was not branded in any way.
However, he told me that he couldn't get an update to 2.3.3 (JVO) through Kies, even though I could - we were both running JPY at the time.
Today he told me he still couldn't get the update so I asked him to write down his IMEI number and then on his dialpad type in *#272IMEI# and it came up with his CSC being set to KOR (even though it should be XEU?).
I asked him whether he could choose a different option and he said he had about 5 different ones available including XEU. I told him not to change it and install XEU because I wasn't sure if it would impact his phone in any way.
He told me he had already backed up his phone when he heard about the gingerbread update and he was prepared to change it.
Just want to ask you guys, if he did change from KOR to XEU, and installed it and rebooted his phone - is this safe??
My friend really wants to update to JVO and this is the only thing holding up the update.
So guys, what's your opinion? Let me know as soon as you can.
