Samsung Galaxy S II stuck in flight mode ... unable to connect to SIM card?

After turning my phone on after leaving it off for the day I am unable to connect to my Network Provider (Displays "No Service). When I look at my options it displays "Flight Mode On" under the power button options. I turn this off but it still shows Flight Mode selected under my Network Settings? Can anyone recommend a solution other then a factory reset?

Have you tried it with a different SIM card?

It might be that the SIM itself is faulty, and the phone defaults to flight mode if it can't register with a service provider. <-- That's a guess by the way.

I will try and replace the SIM Card this weekend ... however I did try my current SIM on another phone and it connected straight away? Re-inserted back into my S2 and still have the same error.

Try a soft reset(battery out for 5mins) failing that a factory reset may fix it.

I have this problem too. It spontaneously reverts to flight mode, though the symbol that replaces the signal bar is a 'stop' sign (circle with a diagonal line through it). It disables 3G and leads you to settings where flight mode is ticked and in mobile browsing packet data is turned off. If you change them they just revert back when you exit.

Extremely annoying, I've only had the thing a week, it's great apart from this problem.

I've done a factory restore and it's failed to sort the problem out

I'm with Orange, what network are others using with this problem?

Early firmwares had some issues with orange sim cards. Updating and maybe debranding to get the latest (KG2)bfirmware may be the way forward.

I made a factory restore and installed the latest firmware via kies.
    now the problem is gone.

    but got a new problem.
i am unable to use power button to lock the screen. when i click the power button (short cut for screen lock), it opens the phone options.
i have already enable the screen pattern. it works fine but the short cut doesnt work.
    its annoying . pls helpppp

I was able to fix it by turning my phone off, turning it back on then holding the power button for about a second to bring up the phone options window and turning off flight mode there. Worked for me and hope it works for you. Good luck.
