    Preventing costly automatic updates

Apologies if this is a silly question.

I have just got the Samsung Galaxy s2 on contract with a 500MB data usage. I want to make sure I switch of any automatic updates or other stuff that runs in the background that might eat up my data usage and end up costing me a fortune over the mobile network. I've been caught like this with other phones and wanted to make sure I'm not again.

    Can anyone help.

    Thanks

There is an option in the market for each app to turn off automatic updates and then many and various ways to minimise the phone's use of the data connection.

I can recommend installing 3G watchdog, which tells you what use you've had and predicts how much you'll use for that month. It'll also switch off the data connection if you get to your limit.
I could be wrong, I usually am. (Because it's only a phone)

To disable apps from automatic updates on the Samsung Galaxy S II, do the following simple steps:

    1. Open "Google Play" or "Play Store" (same app)
    2. Press the menu button and select "settings"
    3. Should be self explanatory from there

*Note: You can disable automatic updates altogether, or you can set them to download only when connected to WiFi. The latter option is advantageous because data usage does not apply while connected to WiFi (atleast on T-Mobile), however I recommend disabling them altogether because some updates are not necessarily enhancements to the app. If you like the way the app works, leave it be.
