Has anyone managed to sync with Outlook 2010 ?

Not tried calender as I don't use Outlook at all. I was trying it for my brother who does use it a lot but he still hasn't made up his mind about a new phone yet. I'll create some entries on the calender and try it. Will let you know how it goes.

For all you quick readers, here is the conclusion first, with the process following for the more patient readers:

Samsung Kies works 100%, but only AFTER I have made sure that Windows 7 detects the phone as a phone, and not as a mass media device. I can successfully sync my Galaxy S against Outlook 2010 64 bit on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, after applying a few tweaks.

I have tested on Darky's Rom 9.4.

Installing the Galaxy S on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

1. As I wasn't using a clean install, I downloaded "usbdeview-x64" to remove all USB references to my previous (and many) errors with the phone. Get "usbdeview-x64" via Google
2. Before connecting the phone, I installed the "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones(v1.2.910.131 42)" Find it on Google
3. After that, I succesfully connected the phone to Windows 7, and it correctly saw the phone as a phone, not as a USB mass storage device.

Darky Rom version 9.4 general settings:

1. "PC Connection only available in idle. Please close all running applications" meant that I could only sync when the phone was displaying the homepage
2. USB Debugging deactivated
3. Menu > Settings > Wireless and network > Usb Settings > Samsung Kies
4. Menu > Settings > Wireless and network > Tethering > Deactivated
5. Menu > Settings > Applications > Development Usb Debugging > Deactivated
6. Launcher = TW Launcher default
7. Google account set up on phone
8. I used the built-in calender that came with Darky's ROM, and I discovered that there are two calenders in one: To choose whether you wish to use a calender that syncs against Google, or to use "My Calender" that syncs towards Outlook, go on your phone to: "Applications > Calender > Menu > Settings > Calenders" and choose the one you prefer. I have successfully tested "Phone > Google", "Phone > Outlook via Kies", Outlook to Google and finally "Outlook>Google>Kies"
9. No External SD Card installed
10. And then I did it all again with an external SD card installed, no problems encountered

General PC settings:

1. Whenever I synced using Samsung Kies, Outlook 2010 was closed
2. I hacked "Outlook.exe" using the advice from venukb.com/2009/12/15/google-calendar-sync-with-outlook-2010/
3. I then installed Google Calender Syn version 0.9.4.0 from Google and set it to sync every 10 minutes
4. I synced all my events from Outlook 2010 to my Google Calender, making sure that the syn only went FROM Outlook 2010 TO Google Calender and not vice versa

Auto sync of contactpersons and calender works with outlook 2010 64 bit, even though Kies can't detect it

Test of contactpersons:

Initial sync of all contacts on PC to phone: Kies works

Create new contact on PC, then sent to phone: Kies works
Create new contact on phone, then sent to PC: Kies works

Edit existing contact on PC, then sent to phone: Kies works
Edit existing contact on phone, then sent to PC: Kies works

Delete existing contact on PC, then sent to phone: Kies works
Delete existing contact on phone, then sent to PC: Kies works

Test of Outlook and Kies:

Initial sync of all calender posts on PC to phone: Kies works

Create new calender post on PC, then sent to phone: Kies works
Create new calender post on phone, then sent to PC: Kies works

Edit existing calender post on PC, then sent to phone: Kies works
Edit existing calender post on phone, then sent to PC: Kies works

Delete existing calender post on PC, then sent to phone: Kies works
Delete existing calender post on phone, then sent to PC: Kies works

Test of Outlook to Google, all is fine,
Test of Google to phone, all is fine
Test of Google on the phone to Outlook, all is fine.

Sorted the problem. Syncs fine with Outlook 2010 now

How were you able to do the sync with the S1 and Outlook 2010? I tried and 791 contacts in Outlook and 751 in Kies. Also it did not pull my callander or Memo across?

All above is helpfull, thank you all! I have Outlook 2010. after many trials with syncing outlook ad Kies, I came to conclusion that Samsung needs to do a better job addressing this sync issue. I had a Blackberry before and I was completely satisfied syncing it with outlook2010. Blackberry's desktop did the job smoothly with no errors whether through company Exchange or outlook standalone. I really miss this with Kies; if it works once, it doesnt the next time.. and so on and so forth. Further, it fails to sync outlook tasks with phone. THere is definitely a problem, but, I couldnt exactlyfigure it out, so I came to the conclusion that Kies is the problem as outlook has been there for a longer time and many other smart phones are syncing fine with it.

conclusion: Hope Samsung really focus on fixing this sync issue and improves its Kies product reliability.

Managed to sync Calendar once or twice only - tried it running open and closed no difference. Did the same stopped at 40% and has done every time i have tried since.
