2.3.3 Gingerbread is the latest, but are for the Scandinavian countries. Some UK phones have been lucky enough to get the UK version from kies before Samsung withdrew it because of some problems. I don't know where you got it from but you might want to look at samfirmware.com. You will need to register on the site, it's free.

That is the site I got the firmware from, on the Europe list near the bottom.

What should be the latest firmware that Kies would recognize from that site?

    Thank you.

The latest UK version (XEU) is JPY 2.2.1 if you decide you want to go to a UK version you may want to flash JPO before you flash JPY.

If you can get Kies working and you don't want to go down the custom rom route then yeah, Kies is the easiest, least stressful way! Odin is fine after you've used it for the first time, but that first time is bum clenching

Used odin yesterday and was nervous, I want to get a firmware installed so kies can take over again.

Downloaded I9000XXJPO but none of the files are PHONE, PDA or CSC. the files after unzipping are factoryfs, param, cache & few others.

Not sure what to do with these files?

Where abouts are you, UK or some where else

Try this and post back what you find: You will need to know your phones IMEI number first, to find it *#06# in the dial pad, write it down, then enter this into the dial pad *#272*your IMEI Number# it should look some thing like this *#272*347275984764583# This will tell you what sales code you have, If UK it will be XEU, XEE is for Scandinavian countries.
