    Considering reverting to official Rom

    Ok, so I have a Galaxy S, rooted (SuperOneFix/Click method) with Darkys 9.5 XWJS8, kernel versionl, 2.6.32.9 ficeto@vpn #Dark_Core_1.2, baseband version I9000XXJVE

I am toying with the idea of reverting to an official Rom but am not sure how I go about it.

I have looked at other threads regarding this but didn't find them altogether clear in terms of my specific set up and reverting.

Would it be a simple case of updating via kies or odin to an official rom or is there more to it.

The only thing I know I need to do before doing anything is disable the lagfix.

I still want the phone rooted so that I can apply a lagfix but might want to revert to an official Rom.

The reason being that I haven't noticed any marked change in battery life since flashing Darkys and even if I don't revert now, it would be good to know how to for future referrence, should I need to take the phone back for repair if something should go wrong with it.

I hope I am clear in what I am asking here and would appreciate any help, a step by step guide would be even better as I do tend to get a little confused. lol.

    Thank you in advance
    Alison

Use odin to flash back to and original firmware then find a rooting program to root your phone Depending on what firmware your flashing depends on what and how to flash

Thanks for your reply, I take it that means it's not just a case of flashing an up to date official rom via kies?

    Alison,

I assume you're in the same boat as me (cue Titanic music...) in that you'd like to have the option to go back to official Froyo 2.2.1 JPY firmware (UK, unbranded) and then let Kies update you to Gingerbread when it comes out. If Gingerbread works OK then maybe stick with it to avoid warranty issues should we hit that damn iceberg...

So I guess, as a backup position, we need the definitive guide to re-flashing stock 2.2.1 JPY firmware via Odin for, I'm assuming, the XEU region. I'm sure I've seen that somewhere as part of the Darky 9.x flashing guides. Not that I'm not delighted with Darky's ROM, though. Re-rooting isn't an issue as it's very straight-forward.

Yes Professor, exactly the same boat. lol. That's exactly what I want to do. Not sure which region I come under mind, but probably XEU (I think, maybe, who knows. lol)

I like Darkys too but think I would like to go with official to update to gb when it comes out, I've heard good things about gb.

Woah woah woah. Stop right there. Mice, back on the mouse organ.

Why go to the bother of flashing stock 2.2.1 with odin to have Kies (blurgh) update you to ginger?

When you're both good and ready, flash direct to stock gingerbread using odin.

What am I missing? Something, I'll bet.
I could be wrong, I usually am. (Because it's only a phone)

Not sure if this page will help you -----> Product Codes to use with Kies

8.1.4 in the contents list, a little under the table there is also a 'how to find your product code' (this section not helpful if you have changed and forgotten your product code).

Edit: There are some other useful things on the page. All to do with SGS i9000

XEU = European countries, any in general.
There are more specific codes relating to carrier/provider.

Fret ye not, sire! I just want to know how in case I need to. I'm beta testing something at the moment and I suspect having a custom ROM could lead to all kinds of raised eyebrows if I have issues others don't (which I seem to have, much to the developer's dismay).

As for those pesky rodents, the chocolate biscuit con was a straw of the last variety. Said animals are now supporting a motorway bridge over the M5. No-one crosses Yaffle. No-one...

Follow Pidz instructions on post #2 of the following link ----> Can't downgrade from 2.3.3

I have just installed JPU, waiting for JPY to download.....damn download limits. After JPU installed I registered my product code / region choosing XEU (I'm in England and bought phone in England).

My phone is running a lot better on JPU then any other stock rom so far.

Aha, that's what I'm missing, beta testing.

I followed Pidz advice and am on JPU CSC, JS8 PDA and JPG MODEM.

Just need a few clear runs to reset the battery.
