Phone stuck on recovery screen

Help, I upgraded to Gingerbread and my phone cant do a factory reset as it wants a password and now it is stuck on the screen. Is it bricked?

I doubt it. Almost impossible to brick these things, thankfully.

I'll leave the rescue act instructions to the experts here - hopefully they can advise you on what to do next. I thought I read somewhere that you can bypass the password by entering recovery mode via Volume Up and Down, Home and Power buttons. Worth a try maybe...

If you are unable to get out of recovery mode then take out the battery, then try going to download mode?

Be helpful if you could describe exactly what is displayed. Am wondering how a password can be entered on that screen.

I had the same problem when my phone disconnected from Kies and was 'frozen' during an update! I agree with Tufftoad. Take the battery out and enter download mode. Recovery mode only uses the volume keys and the home key.... something dodgy going on there if it's asking for a password?!
