Click on Settings>applications> manage applications> running > then choose from the list>Force stop.

The Samsung Task Manager (LINK HERE) is probably the best app manager you can get for the Galaxy S. It comes with a great little Widget called "Program Monitor" which can sit on a home screen and tell you how many tasks are currently running. Tap on it once and you have the option to shut down those tasks. It also has a memory manager and an app uninstalling utility. It's one of the best apps Samsung have released imho.

There are plenty of task managers out there, but I'd steer clear of the likes of ATK (Advanced Task Killer) because apart from being reasonably complicated to use, they run as a background service which often uses up more battery and resources than the apps they are designed to shutdown. In the long run you'd be better off letting the Android system manage your running apps/services than installing an app like ATK.

Can't see that on my version or the one you linked to mate. I've got the Task Manager installed but no sign of Program Monitor or Widget? Sounds just like what I need though.

If you long press (touch but keep your finger on) any home screen, then select "Add Widget" it should be listed there.

Note - Depending on your firmware, you might get the options of ["Samsung Widgets" & "Android Widgets"] or just ["Widgets"], if this is the case, it'll be in the Samsung Widgets.

The widget will only work on touchwiz, on launcherPro the app works but the 'running app' widget is not available....well not on mine anyway...
