    Is it a RAR file? if it is you will need winrar to extract it.

    So you've extracted it already. Where did you get the JPY file from? I'm thinking it might be corrupt. Try this link from samfirmware.com for the JPY file http://www.multiupload.com/UHJNT0K1F2
    Make sure you have the latest version of winrar installed.

    When you have downloaded the JPY file save it to your desktop, right click it and select extract here. It will ask for a password= samfirmware.com

    If you have Darky you can root from recovery menu if I am correct, at least I did yesterday.

    Their is a how to thread about this already: http://samsunggalaxysforums.com/showthread.php/2921-How-to-use-Odin-to-upgrade-to-Froyo-from-Eclair

    But it would help to know what firmware you are currently on first, type in < *#1234# > into the dial pad.

    Depending on what firmware you are on (If it was Partitioned with 512.pit), you could just put JPY file into the PDA box then flash.

    If your firmware was flashed with 813.pit, then this is what I did;

    Tick re-partition,
    Add 512.pit to pit box,
    Add code JM8 to PDA box, (May not need to do)
    Add modem JM8/JM4 to Phone box (May not need to do)
    Flash
    Restart odin

    Then Add JPY to PDA box and flash. Make sure there is no pit file and re-partition is un-ticked
